Tony Award-winning actress Priscilla Lopez has joined the cast of Fanny, the 50th Encores! musical produced by New York City Center since 1994 and the second Encores! production of the season. (Ms. Lopez replaces the previously announced Rondi Reed, who is no longer available due to illness.) Fanny, running February 4 - 7, has music and lyrics by Harold Rome and book by S.N. A Chorus Line is not the impressive spectacle offered by most nationally touring musicals. It has no special effects and no impressive costumes. The minimalistic set consists of a series of mirrors, a black stool and the infamous line on which hopeful dancers await their fate. A CHORUS LINE Kicks Off in Houston

Broadway classic A Chorus Line kicked off a two-week stand at Houstons Hobby Center this week. The Marvin Hamlisch musical tells the story of seventeen wannabe Broadway dancers, all auditioning for eight limited spots on a chorus line. The one-act production is stacked with stellar dance numbers, poignant monologues, and songs that let the audience in on the characters motives for pursuing their dreams to dance. (more...)

Broadway favorite Christopher Sieber (Shrek, Spamalot) spent Saturday, December 12 mentoring the young talent of Broadway's future as they led the morning portion of a Shrek master class with Broadway Artists Alliance. Sieber (Lord Farquaad) answered questions and candidly spoke about his experiences with Shrek as well as other stage and screen credits to a group of eager and talented young performers ages 10 to 21. The group's morning Q & A was followed with a Song Interpretation class led by Sieber. The master class concluded with a Musical Theatre Audition Technique session by a representative from Tara Rubin casting. (more...)
