American Composers Orchestra (ACO), under the leadership of Artistic Director Derek Bermel and Music Director George Manahan, continues its 40th Anniversary Season on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 7:30pm with Orchestra Underground: Past Forward at Carnegie Hall's subterranean Zankel Hall. Now in its 13th year, Orchestra Underground continues as ACO's subversive and entrepreneurial redefinition of the orchestra as an elastic ensemble. Led by Manahan, Past Forward illustrates the role the past plays in the present, from composers' own personal explorations of their roots, to broader investigations of the universal role of memory and recollection.

It was during my undergrad years at Sam Houston State University that I was introduced to the writings of Edward Albee. It was in 1963 when WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? debuted on Broadway and shook the foundation of the theatre world. Albee's work delves into the human psyche with an in-depth view of relationships, marriage, and sex. His presence will be truly missed but his mark on the theatre world is undoubtedly immortal.

ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS by Richard Bean is an English adaptation of The Servant of Two Masters, the 1743 Commedia dell'arte play by Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni. Bean has replaced the original Italian setting with 1963 Brighton. It first opened at the National Theatre in 2011, toured the UK and then opened in the West End in November 2011, with a subsequent Broadway opening in April 2012.
The basic premise centers on eternally ravenous Francis Henshall (Martin Burke) who ends up being employed by two men at the same time: Roscoe Crabbe, a local gangster, and Stanley Stubbers (Tyler Jones), an upper class criminal. Francis works frantically at keeping the two from meeting, so that neither finds out that Francis is working for two men at the same time. What no one knows is Roscoe is really Rachel Crabbe (Amy Downing) in disguise. Her twin brother Roscoe was killed by her lover, Stanley Stubbers. Subplots include Pauline Clench (Madison Weinhoffer) who was to marry Roscoe in an arranged marriage by her father Charlie "The Duck" Clench (Michael Stuart) but is planning to elope with amateur actor Alan Dangle (Andre Martin).

SHE LOVES ME is a musical with a book by Joe Masteroff, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and music by Jerry Bock. It is an adaptation of the play Parfumerie by Hungarian playwright Miklos Laszlo. Other adaptations include the films The Shop Around the Corner, In the Good Old Summertime and You've Got Mail. It opened on Broadway in 1963, and has had productions in the West End as well as award-winning revivals and regional productions. It is currently playing in revival on Broadway in a production by The Roundabout Theatre.
