The Friars Club Comedy Film Festival will open its inaugural year on Thursday, September 24th with the U.S. premiere of 'A Serious Man' - the new film from Academy Award-winning writer/directors Joel & Ethan Coen. The Focus Features release will subsequently open in select U.S. cities on Friday, October 2nd.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Hugh Hughes' STORY OF A RABBIT, Punch Brothers and Jake Shimabukuro were some of the other breakout hits of the 2009 festival.

The North Carolina Shakespeare Festival will be offering Hands On Shakespeare Teacher Workshops for middle and secondary English and Drama teachers as part of it Outreach Education program. The workshops are scheduled for April 25, July 25 and October 24 at The Festival's new High Point facility, Spirit Center, located at 807 W. Ward Ave., High Point.

Sandy, the beloved pet 'star' of the musical Annie has agreed ('aarf, aarf!!!') to come out into the PPAC Lobby Lounge to have photos taken after the Saturday, May 2, matinee show at 2P to create a special memory and to benefit the Providence Animal Rescue League (PARL) for just $10 per photo! Adults and children are invited to participate in this special opportunity and will leave with their unique photo with Sandy to commemorate the occasion and with the added benefit of knowing that the purchase will benefit local pets in need, many of whom, like Annie and Sandy, need to find loving and safe homes!

Sean Mathias will direct Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart in Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot which is his first production as Artistic Director of the 2009 Theatre Royal Haymarket Company. Waiting for Godot will tour the UK prior to its opening in London in April.

The cast features Madison Kerth as Annie; and Minnesota natives Jeffrey Duncan from Eagan as Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Cheryl Hoffmann from Sleepy Eye as Lily St. Regis. Mikey, a mixed-breed dog rescued from an animal shelter by trainer William Berloni, plays Sandy. The original Broadway production of Annie won seven 1977 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Book and Score. It ran for 2,377 performances and has subsequently been produced all over the world. The original production is one of the top 20 longest running shows in Broadway history, and Annie continues to be one of the most successful musicals ever. It boasts one of Broadway's most memorable scores, including 'It's the Hard-Knock Life,' 'Easy Street,' 'N.Y.C' and the ever optimistic 'Tomorrow.' Abdrazakov to Replace Morris in Pavarotti Tribute
