On Saturday, December 12 at 7:00pm, composer Phil Kline will lead a massive chorus of boomboxes from the West Village to the East Village in the 18th annual holiday presentation of UNSILENT NIGHT. People gather at the arch in Washington Square Park, and less than an hour and mile later, end up in Tompkins Square Park.

Following its initial success at the National Theatre, Stephen Daldry's production of An Inspector Calls transferred to the West End for two years, prior to a world tour. In 1993 the production opened on Broadway, winning an unprecedented string of awards including four Tony Awards. Winning a total of 19 major awards since it first opened, this landmark production has played in Australia, the United States, Japan and Europe, and as well as its first West End run, has completed six major UK tours and a return visit to the West End which lasted for over eight years. Well in excess of 2 million theatergoers have watched the production at nearly 5000 performances.

Starring Bill Pullman and Julia Stiles and directed by Tony Award winner Doug Hughes (Doubt), the play is a gripping account of a power struggle between a male university professor and one of his female students. The New Group, currently represented Off-Broadway by Ian Bruce's play Groundswell, is pleased to announce its upcoming 2009-2010 season. Condemned as 'spiritual pollution' by Chinese Communist Party officials and banned from production, the controversial play, which recalls Beckett's Waiting for Godot, earned Gao a reputation as an avant-garde writer to watch. Interpreted as an analogy for ineffective Communist government, the play was described by one eminent member of the party as 'the most pernicious piece of writing since the foundation of the People's Republic.' Translated by Shiao-Ling Yu and directed by Samantha Shechtman, previews begin March 26 at Sanford Meisner Theater. Opening night is slated for April 1.
