BWW Review: MAMMA MIA May Induce 70s Flashbacks
by Paul Batterson - Dec 27, 2016

As a diehard rock and roll fan of groups like the Rolling Stones and the Who, I have been harboring a deep, dark secret. The second album I bought growing up was ABBA's Gold. The quartet, which was Sweden's second largest export next to Volvo, had a knack for producing hum-worthy harmonies and catchy choruses that stick in your subconscious for months and months to come. ABC Announces New Year's Programming, Including CHARLIE BROWN, RUDOLPH, and More!
by TV News Desk - Dec 26, 2016

The ABC Television Network and the PEANUTS gang will ring in the new year with the half-hour animated PEANUTS special, 'Happy New Year, Charlie Brown,' created by late cartoonist Charles M. Schulz. In 'Happy New Year, Charlie Brown,' the PEANUTS gang is ringing in 1986 and Marcie and Peppermint Patty are throwing a big New Year's Eve bash. Charlie Brown plans to celebrate the holiday by curling up with a big book that weighs nearly as much as he does: Tolstoy's War and Peace. The book's weight doesn't stop him from lugging it to Lucy's pre-party dance class, where he cuts a mean rug with a rollicking Patty. With just 1131 pages to go, Charlie Brown takes another break, this time for The Party, and summons the courage to invite his true love, the little red-haired girl. She doesn't respond, but hapless Chuck shows up anyway - with Tolstoy in tow. Then he settles down with the book - on a porch swing in a snowstorm, and in so doing, misses the evening's big surprise. This broadcast of 'Happy New Year, Charlie Brown' airs MONDAY, DECEMBER 26 (8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m EST) on ABC. (more...)

Playhouse on the Square presents ROCK oF AGES
by BWW News Desk - Dec 21, 2016

It's the tail end of the big bad 1980s in Hollywood, and The Party has been raging hard. Aqua Net, Lycra, lace, and liquor flow freely at one of the Sunset Strip's last legendary venues, but the rock-and-roll fairy-tale is about to end when German developers sweep into town with plans to turn the fabled Strip into just another capitalist strip mall. Can the dream be saved before it's too late? Only the music of hit bands like Styx, Poison, Guns N' Roses, Whitesnake, and more hold the answers. (more...)
