Adapted from the 1991 film, Dogfight premiered Off-Broadway in 2012 and riding off the back of its short run, won two awards including 'Outstanding Musical' the following year. The European debut featured at the Southwark Playhouse last year and has enjoyed several regional productions since. The musical is currently playing at the beautiful Old Joint Stock in Birmingham which is a perfect setting for a stunning show. (more...)

Two seasoned theatre professionals, one from New York and one a Detroit native, have joined forces to launch the Detroit Public Theatre (DPT). Detroit's newest performing arts institution will open in residence at the Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center in October 2015. The inaugural season of Detroit Public Theatre opens with the Michigan Premiere of the dark comedy, American Hero by Bess Wohl, on October 30, 2015. The line up continues through May 2016 in the Robert A. and Maggie Allessee Rehearsal Hall at the Max with three more productions - including Dominique Morisseau's powerful and timely Detroit '67, and From Broadway to Obscurity, a musical journey by Eric Gutman, a homegrown artist and leading Broadway player. Over the weekend, I had pleasure of attending the fabulous annual gala event hosted by the Gateway Playhouse located in Bellport, Long Island. In essence, this is a fundraising event, now in its 5th year, to benefit the theatre. Everyone was in the spirit of the 70's - outfits, hair, you name it - as The Party featured preview performances from their upcoming production of the musical Saturday Night Fever. In fact, they even dubbed the event 'Gateway's Disco Ball Gala'. (more...)

Wanna be on the block where it happens? Just stop by the Richard Rodgers Theatre (46th Street, between Broadway and 8th Ave.) to join The Party that has been going all summer at Hamilton. For every performance of Lin-Manuel Miranda's hit show, fans flock for a chance to win $10 front row seats in the #Ham4Ham lottery. Beginning two and half hours prior to each performance, patrons need only enter their name for a chance to buy up to two front row tickets for $10 each. The winner's names will be drawn 2 hours before show time. Entrants must present photo ID, and the winners must pay with cash at the box office. As if that wasn't awesome enough, since previews began, the cast has been entertaining the lottery participants while they wait, with new #Ham4Ham performances daily. From role swaps, to visits from other Broadway special guests, the lottery has proved to be the coolest stop for any theatre fan. A "dogfight" ensues to determine who can find the most unattractive girl to bring to The Party. Now in its sixth year, the Emerald City Half and Quarter Marathon presented by M3S Sports is a true gem of a race, offering courses that start and finish at the OhioHealth Dublin Methodist Hospital, wind through the Dublin community and feature the beautiful Glacier Ridge Metro Park.  A sold-out field of 3,500 runners and walkers participated in this year's race that also included the 'Run for Fallen Heroes' charity run for the fourth year.  This charity run featured two three-man relay teams of firefighters who ran in full gear, stopping each mile to change their self-contained breathing apparatus, all to benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.  (more...)

Beginning this Saturday, the Elite Theatre Company's South Stage will be presenting Zero Hour, a one-man play about legendary actor Zero Mostel. The project is near and dear to the heart of actor John Medeiros, who has tried to get it produced for almost 5 years. Medeiros has performed in two roles made famous by Mostel, Pseudolus (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum) and Tevye (Fiddler on the Roof). He won the Four Star Alliance Award in 2013 for Outstanding Lead Actor for his portrayal of Tevye. (more...)

SEATTLE, WA – Pacific Northwest Ballet opens its 2015-2016 season with SEE THE MUSIC, a terrific triple-bill of repertory works. After an eight-year hiatus, PNB welcomes the return of George Balanchine's Prodigal Son, choreographed by the ballet master at the age of 25 for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. Another relative youngster, Christopher Wheeldon (recent Tony Award-winner for An American in Paris), shares the bill with Mr. B., represented by his dramatic Tide Harmonic, created for PNB in 2013. The program comes to a comic close with Jerome Robbins' hilarious The Concert (or, The Perils of Everybody). SEE THE MUSIC runs for seven performances only, September 25 through October 4 at Seattle Center's Marion Oliver McCaw Hall.
