Acclaimed harpsichordist Jeannette Sorrell, founder and music director of Cleveland's Apollo's Fire makes her Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra debut when she conducts concertos by Vivaldi, Bach and Boccherini at LACO's "Baroque Conversations" series on Thursday, February 6, 2014, 7 pm, at Zipper Hall in downtown Los Angeles. Sorrell, who "forges a vibrant, life-affirming approach to the re-making of early music," according to BBC Music Magazine, leads Principal Cello Andrew Shulman, Cello Trevor Handy, Principal Violin II Josefina Vergara and Flute Sandy Hughes in Vivaldi's Concerto grosso in B minor (arr. Sorrell) after Sonata in B minor, Op. 1, No. 12, RV 63 ("La Follia"), and Concerto in G minor for Two Cellos, RV 531; Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 in D major, BWV 1050; and Boccherini's "Fandango" (arr. Sorrell) after Guitar Quintet No. 4 in D major, G. 448.

Sundance Institute announced today the members of the six juries awarding prizes at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, January 16-26 in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah. Short Film Awards will be announced at a ceremony on January 21 at Park City's Jupiter Bowl. Feature film awards will be announced at a separate ceremony on January 25 in Park City, hosted by husband-and-wife duo Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally and livestreamed at www.sundance.org/live. Offerman headlines the film Nick Offerman: American Ham in the Festival's Premieres section. Mullally voices a character in the English-language version of Ernest and Celestine, which will have its world premiere in the Festival's new Sundance Kids section.

Long Beach Opera's Artistic and General Director Andreas Mitisek announces the company's 2014 plans to produce five rarely performed 20th and 21st century, “Out Of Bounds,” operas. The new season includes the Southern California premieres of Duke Ellington's “street opera” Queenie Pie and John Adams' controversial The Death of Klinghoffer; An American Soldier's Tale, Kurt Vonnegut 's provocative remake of Igor Stravinsky'sThe Soldier's Tale paired with Wynton Marsalis' jazz-driven A Fiddler's Tale; and a reprise of LBO audience favorite, David Lang's haunting The Difficulty of Crossing a Field. Three of the five composers–Adams, Marsalis and Lang–are actively contributing to today's music scene, while Stravinsky and Ellington made indelible marks on 20th century music.
