The New York Philharmonic will salute departing Principal Trumpet Philip Smith - who will step down from his position at the end of the 2013-14 season following 36 seasons of service - in A Celebration of Phil Smith, a concert featuring the New York Philharmonic Brass and Percussion Ensemble, conducted by Mr. Smith and Bramwell Tovey, July 5, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. The program will also include works that showcase brass: an arrangement of Rimsky-Korsakov's Procession of the Nobles; a Horn Quartet by Gershwin; Tomasi's Liturgical Fanfares; an arrangement of The Great Gate of Kiev from Musorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition; and Pollack's That's a Plenty, which the New York Philharmonic Principal Brass Quintet, of which Mr. Smith was a founding member, has frequently performed as an encore on the Orchestra's tours. Philharmonic musicians will introduce the works and speak about Mr. Smith.

Everyone's favorite tough-as-nails Southern lady, Madea, is back in Tyler Perry's MADEA'S NEIGHBORS FROM HELL. Honestly, I wasn't quite sure what to expect from the filmed stage play. Whatever I was expecting, this DVD exceeded those expectations and proved to be a highly enjoyable and entertaining experience.

Jane Moss, Ehrenkranz Artistic Director, today announced the 48th season of Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival, New York's acclaimed annual summer celebration of classical music, which runs from July 25-August 23, 2014. This year's Festival will feature more than 35 events across several venues including concerts, opera, dance, pre-concert recitals and lectures, late-night performances, contemporary music, and premieres of two commissioned works. The Festival kicks off with two free events: the world premiere of a new work by John Luther Adams, performed July 25 and 26 for free on Hearst Plaza, in a joint presentation with Lincoln Center Out of Doors, and continuing an annual tradition, the free preview concert by the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra at Avery Fisher Hall on July 26. Renee and Robert Belfer Music Director Louis Langree returns for his 12th season to conduct the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, which will perform a wide range of works anchored by the Festival's featured namesake. Mostly Mozart will also present world-renowned artists and returning Festival favorites, such as violinist Joshua Bell, Mark Morris Dance Group, Emerson String Quartet and Artists-in-Residence International Contemporary Ensemble, as well as 14 Festival debuts, including pianists Yuja Wang and Steven Osborne, and violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja.

Dr. Leana Wen, co-author of the new book, When Doctors Don't Listen: How to Avoid Misdiagnoses and Unnecessary Tests, is an emergency room physician and patient advocate. She has also been a clinical fellow at Harvard Medical School and a Rhodes Scholar. Inspired by her own childhood illness and then her mother's long battle with cancer, Dr. Wen is passionate about guiding patients to advocate for better care. On Monday, March 24, she arrives at Wharton Center as the next speaker in the World View Lecture Series.

Producers of the five-time Tony Award-nominated Rock of Ages are pumped to announce that National Football League (NFL) superstars Randall Cobb, Joique Bell and Ahman Green will make their Broadway debuts as in the smash hit musical in the week leading up to Super Bowl XLVIII. With more names to be announced soon, the #BroadwayBlitz will be kicked off at The Helen Hayes Theater (240 W. 44th Street) on Tuesday, January 28 at the 7pm show with Green Bay Packer wide receiver Randall Cobb. Next on the roster is Detroit Lions running back Joique Bell at the 8pm show on Wednesday, January 29, followed by four-time Pro-Bowl running back Ahman Green at the matinee performance on Saturday, February 1, 2014.
