Photo Flash: THE BROTHER/SISTER PLAYS at The Public Theate

Tarell Alvin McCraney's The Brother/Sister Plays have officially launched at the Public Theater. The series Part 2, The Brothers Size and Marcus; or the Secret of Sweet, directed by Robert O'Hara, began previews on October 21. Tonight Part 1, In the red and Brown Water, hits the stage. Tina Landau directs. McCraney, one of America's most acclaimed young writers, returns to The Public to complete his trilogy following the success of The Brothers Size in 2007. Official opening night it November 17. Performances will run through December 13. (more...)

The Drama League and its friends held a special cocktail reception for "Mr. Broadway" himself, Stewart F. Lane as he discussed producing for today's theatre. The event was followed by a signing of Mr. Lane's new DVD titled "Let's Put on a Show!" which is an informed and witty guide on producing which covers everything from raising money to creating an audience. The old cliché says that New York audiences will always bow in awe and rampage box offices whenever a play from Great Britain washes upon its shores. But in recent seasons it seems that type of grandiose reception has been reserved for productions that land on our stages by way of Chicago. I have no idea what the new black may be but I have a strong hunch Steppenwolf is the new Old Vic. (more...)
