Certain parts of Jason Robert Brown's score for SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD have been translated for a new South African production of the show which is currently being performed at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown. PITTSBURGH – FUSE@PSO, the popular, genre-bending early evening concert series presented by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, returns Wednesday, March 9 to Heinz Hall with “Stravinsky's Firebird: Remix | Response.”
For this concert, series Creative Director Steve Hackman has crafted a modern dramatization and remix of Stravinsky's ballet The Firebird. Weaved into the Stravinsky are 12 original songs, inspired by the myth of the Firebird and the original 1911 score, that implement modern pop/DJ/electronica production techniques and tell the story in an entirely new and contemporary way. It is at once a live remix, concept album and classical masterpiece. Joining the Pittsburgh Symphony are rapper Jecorey “1200” Arthur, singer Malia Cievtz, drummer Gabriel Globus-Hoenich and a 15-person female choir.

Randolph-Wright, a Resident Playwright through Arena Stage's American Voices New Play Institute and director of Motown the Musical currently on Broadway, joins forces with director Lucie Tiberghien (MCC Theater's Don't Go Gentle) to bring to life the tale of two fantastically different people discovering love in the most unlikely of places: war-torn Afghanistan. One, an emerging hip-hop artist, the other, a high-level Afghan interpreter, both fight to navigate the pitfalls of romance, religious differences and political unrest. Love in Afghanistan runs tonight, October 11-November 17, 2013 in the Arlene and Robert Kogod Cradle.

July is bursting with musical magic when Eddie Bruce & Friends illuminate the waterfront on Thursdays in Philadelphia at SugarHouse Casino. The shows begin at 8 p.m. and run through 11 p.m. except on the July 4th holiday when it will be 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. On that date Eddie is joined by vocalist Michael Richard Kelly, on July 11th Eddie calls singer Paula Johns to the stage, then on July 18th Charlene Holloway joins the juncture, followed by Eddie fusing with Edgardo Cintron on July 25th. Eddie Bruce & Friends can be seen every Thursday in The Refinery restaurant and bar at SugarHouse. SugarHouse is located at 1001 N Delaware Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19125 with free parking.
