LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE, a new musical based on the beloved Laura Ingalls Wilder series of classic American books, arrived on November 10th at the Tulsa PAC in Tulsa, Ok. Melissa Gilbert, who rose to fame as a child playing ‘Laura' in the hugely successful NBC television series "Little House on the Prairie" during the 1970's, now continues her legacy ‘on the prairie' by taking on the role of Ma. LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE will also star Steve Blanchard as Pa and Kara Lindsay as Laura. Tickets for the Tulsa engagement of LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE will go on sale on Monday, October 5th. REVIEW: Moonlight and Magnolias provides laughs and history at Laguna Playhouse

When you've got a prestige project like Gone With The Wind in your hands, your goal as a director or a producer or a writer or, hell, even a craft services caterer, is to make it be the Best. Movie. Ever. In 1939, in what seemed like a banner year for celluloid masterpieces, David O. Selznick was a young, ambitious, forward-thinking producer that knew this film, based on Margaret Mitchell's global best-seller, should be better than how it was progressing. Thus, according to Hollywood legend, he decides to shut down production on this massive film project, fire his original director, and bring in a trusted script doctor to fix the flaws in what would eventually prove to be one of history's most successful and celebrated pictures of all time. Thus is the premise of Ron Hutchinson's MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS, now playing at the Laguna Playhouse through November 1. There's plenty of laughs here, but can be slow and too long at certain moments. (more...)

Review: Over Due Theater Company Presents THE WIZARD OF OZ

The musical version of L.Frank Baum's timeless classic, THE WIZARD OF OZ comes to life on stage at the Olivette Community Center as part of their Summer Theatre Camp 2009. Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg's tuneful score is given a nice workout by the Over Due Theatre Company, augmented by a vast ensemble of kids who portray the various munchkins, poppies, Winkies, monkeys and citizens of the Emerald City. Executive Producer Ron Iannone is excited to announce the West Virginia Public Theatre debut of the global musical phenomenon Disney?s High School Musical live on the stage of the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre in the WVU Creative Arts Center from July 8th through July 12th and July 15th through July 19th. This hit movie-turned-musical is a modern Romeo and Juliet story about two high school juniors from rival cliques: Troy Bolton, captain of the basketball team, and Gabriella Montez, a beautiful and shy transfer student who excels in math and science. Together, they try out for the lead parts in their high school musical, and as a result, divide the school. Despite other students' attempts to thwart their dreams, Troy and Gabriella resist peer pressure and rivalry, inspiring others along the way not to "stick with the status quo." (more...)
