Firehouse Theatre will be transformed into a circus big top when it hosts a variety of events in September under the banner of the YANKEE DOODLE CIRCUS, which is the name of the circus troupe that gets stranded in Vinton, Indiana in Bo Wilson's new play FOOD, CLOTHING, AND SHELTER. The premiere of Show Boat on Broadway in 1927 was a watershed moment in the history of American musicals. Compared to the trivial and unrealistic operettas, light musical comedies and 'Follies'-type musical revues that defined Broadway in the 1890s and early 20th century, Show Boat was, according to the "Complete Book of Light Opera, "a radical departure in musical storytelling, marrying spectacle with seriousness."

What a glorious feeling! Tap your toes and sing along in this splashy adaptation of the celebrated and beloved film. SINGIN' IN THE RAIN plays through August 28.
