THE LION KING Opens Tonight at the Orpheum Theatre

Disney's The Lion King, celebrating nearly 15 years since its 1997 world premiere in Minneapolis, opens tonight, Friday, Jan. 13, at 8 p.m. at Hennepin Theatre Trust's Orpheum Theatre for a limited engagement of five weeks through Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012.

Hollywood's El Capitan Theatre will present "The Secret World of Arrietty" the latest animated feature from the legendary Studio Ghibli ("Spirited Away," "Ponyo"), beginningFebruary 17 through March 8, 2012, it was announced today by Lylle Breier, senior vice president of worldwide special events for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The Providence premiere of MARY POPPINS opens tonight, Thursday, February 9 at the Providence Performing Arts Center for a limited engagement of 2 weeks through Sunday, February 19. MARY POPPINS plays Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 7PM, Thursday and Friday evenings at 7PM, Saturday evenings at 8PM, Sunday evenings at 6:30PM, and Saturday matinees at 2PM and Sunday matinees at 1PM with an additional performance on Thursday, February 16 at 2PM.

According to Deadline.com, Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep might star in an upcoming film about the making of Disney's 'Mary Poppins.' Titled 'Saving Mr. Banks,' the film features a screenplay by Kelly Marcel. Though neither has officially signed on for the movie, the duo would play Walt Disney and author P.L. Travers respectively.
