Review - Kiss Me, Kate: We Open In Millburn

There were actually those who thought Cole Porter, Broadway's fountain of divine wit and sophistication, had run dry by that winter of 1948.  Though his recent offerings like Something For The Boys and Mexican Hayride were far from flops, his kind of thin-plotted musical comedy where the book and the songs often had little more than a passing acquaintance with each other was being overshadowed by the enormous success of Rodgers and Hammerstein's integrated musical dramas.  Even in the lightest of entertainments, the public was becoming more and more enthralled by musicals with strong plots and well-developed characters.

Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director), in association with Marc Platt, presents Stockard Channing (Vera Simpson), Matthew Risch (Joey Evans) and Martha Plimpton (Gladys Bumps) in a new Broadway production of Pal Joey with Robert Clohessy (Mike), Jenny Fellner (Linda English), Daniel Marcus (Ludlow Lowell), Steven Skybell (Ernest), Timothy J. Alex, Brian Barry, Kurt Froman, Bahiyah Sayyed Gaines, Lisa Gajda, Anthony Holds, Nadine Isenegger, Mark Morettini, Kathryn Mowat Murphy, Abbey O'Brien, Hayley Podschun, Krista Saab and Eric Sciotto. PAL JOEY Star Plimpton Nabs Role in Showtime Pilot

The Hollywood Reporter stated today that Martha Plimpton, currently starring in the Broadway revival of Pal Joey at Studio 54, will be part of the cast of the new Showtime pilot 'The End of Steve.'

Matthew Risch Officially Replaces Hoff in PAL JOEY

Understudy Matthew Risch has taken over the title role of Joey Evans in PAL JOEY for an injured Christian Hoff. Hoff has withdrawn from the Broadway musical due to his injury. Risch in a classic theatrical twist of fate now will head the Roundabout revival. The official press opening night is delaying one week later than originally planned to December 18th to allow for this sudden cast change.

Understudy Matthew Risch has stepped into the title role of Joey Evans in PAL JOEY while an injured Christian Hoff rests. Hoff injured his foot Friday evening and the production cancelled the Saturday Matinee on November 22nd. Risch will continue in the role for tonight's special Monday night performance.
