BACKBEAT, the dramatic story of the Beatles' fledgling beginnings, was a rocking success at the Royal Alexandra Theatre this summer. The show, which began on July 20, 2012 and ended September 2, 2012, played 50 performances to over 70,000 theatregoers, averaging 95% capacity.

Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre just announced their 2012-13 season, which is set to include BACKBEAT. The birth of one of the greatest rock 'n' roll bands in history is told in the new dramatic musical "Backbeat," which will have its American premiere and pre-Broadway presentation at the Ahmanson Theatre, January 16 through February 24, 2013. The opening is set for January 23.

Co-written by Iain Softley and Stephen Jeffreys and based on the 1994 film by Iain Softley, who directed the Glasgow production - Backbeat is the story of how The Beatles ‘became' The Beatles - when John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Pete Best and Stuart Sutcliffe embarked on their journey from the famous docks of Liverpool to search for success in the seedy red light district of Hamburg, Germany.
