'Should a woman sleep with a man she finds repellent if by doing so she serves a greater good?' (New York Times) is among the questions of William Shakespeare's Measure for Measure, at Goodman Theatre in a new production directed by Artistic Director Robert Falls. Falls sets his production of Shakespeare's dark comedy against the backdrop of New York City circa 1970s-an era in which economic challenges, urban flight and the sexual revolution transformed one of the greatest cities in the world into one of the most troubled.

Red Bull Theater will present the American Premiere of a new adaptation of August Strindberg's The Dance of Death by Mike Poulton (Tony Award Nominee for Best Play for Fortune's Fool), directed by Joseph Hardy (Tony Award winner for Best Director for Child's Play), for a strictly limited engagement beginning April 10th and continuing through May 4th only, at the Lucille Lortel Theater (121 Christopher Street, between Bleecker and Hudson Streets). Opening Night is set for Thursday April 18th.

The world-premiere production of Pedro Paramo, one of the most culturally-significant magical realism tales of Latin American literature, heads into its final stage of development prior to its March 22-31 limited engagement in Goodman Theatre's Latino Theatre Festival.

Goodman Theatre proudly announces a Summer 2014 production of the 1947 musical Brigadoon, with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe-marking the first major revival of the musical in nearly 20 years. Award-winning Chicago director/choreographer Rachel Rockwell, hailed as "a theatrical magician" (Chicago Sun-Times) and "2012 Chicagoan of the Year" (Chicago Tribune) for her recent reinvestigations of American musicals, directs the piece in her Goodman debut. With permission from the Lerner and Loewe estates, the Goodman and Rockwell will consider some revisions to the book for this production. Goodman Theatre announces a special staged reading of Roberto Bolaño's epic novel 2666-co-adapted for the stage and co-directed by Goodman Artistic Director Robert Falls and new Goodman Playwright-in-Residence Seth Bockley-tonight, December 17 at 6pm as part of Goodman's December 8 - 23 New Stages series. (Note: The reading of 2666 will last approximately five hours, including three intermissions).

Five new plays (two fully staged workshop productions performed in repertory plus three staged readings) comprise Goodman Theatre's free 2012 New Stages Amplified in the Owen Theatre, a series that since 2004 has given audiences a first look at more than 50 new plays in development.

Goodman Theatre announces Jimmy McDermott, former associate artistic director at Writers' Theatre, as the recipient of the 2012/2013 Season Michael Maggio Directing Fellow for Chicago-based directors. As a fellow, McDermott will receive a stipend and the opportunity to assist on a Goodman production-from early research and design through the casting and rehearsal process to the opening-and become involved in the Goodman's artistic team. Previous Maggio Fellows include Lynn Ann Bernatowicz (2002/2003), Mignon McPherson Nance (2003/2004), Ann Filmer (2005/2006), Dado (2006/2007), Anthony Moseley (2007/2008), Joanie Schultz (2009/2010) and Anna Bahow (2011/2012).

Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Beth Henley's 100-proof comedy THE MISS FIRECRACKER CONTEST, starring film and television actress Amber Tamblyn and directed by Tony Award winner Judith Ivey, will bow on Broadway in the spring of 2013. THE MISS FIRECRACKER CONTEST marks Ms. Tamblyn's Broadway debut and Ms. Ivey's Broadway debut as director, and is produced by HOP Theatricals. Broadway theater and dates to be announced.

David Henry Hwang, best known as the author of "M. Butterfly" and "Chinglish," will offer two presentations at Loyola University New Orleans today, Nov. 5 in Nunemaker Auditorium in Monroe Hall. Both events are free and open to the public.
