Shakespeare Society Announces DANCES WITH SHAKESPEARE: A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, 6/8

The Shakespeare Society (Michael Sexton, Artistic Director) has announced that Dances with Shakespeare: A Midsummer Night?s Dream, a collaboration with the New York City Ballet (NYCB), will take place on Monday, June 8, at 7:00pm at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, East 68 Street, between Park and Lexington Avenues. Today, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts officially launches a yearlong celebration of its 50th Anniversary with a commemorative ceremony in the Starr Theater at Alice Tully Hall. Hosted by renowned journalist and author Tom Brokaw, the program pays tribute to the many achievements and contributions of Lincoln Center, from the milestones of its past half century to the transformation of its campus.

On the morning of May 11, 2009, 50 years after that momentous occasion, Lincoln Center will begin a year-long celebration of its 50th anniversary with a special ceremony in the newly-transformed Alice Tully Hall. New York Philharmonic Music Director Alan Gilbert, acclaimed violinist Itzhak Perlman with alumni from The Perlman Music Program, Tony Award-winning opera star Paulo Szot, jazz icon Wynton Marsalis with members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and The Juilliard Orchestra are among those scheduled to perform in a program that celebrates the past 50 years and looks to the next generation of Lincoln Center's artists and audiences. In the audience of this private event will be elected officials, performing artists, civic and community representatives, and leaders from all 12 Lincoln Center resident organizations.

Nominations for the 2009 Astaire Awards were announced last night at Elaine?s Restaurant by Michael Riedel of the New York Post. These selections were made by this year?s Nominating Committee; Sylviane Gold (Theater Columnist for Dance Magazine), Anna Kisselgoff (former Chief Dance Critic of The New York Times), Wendy Perron (Editor in Chief of Dance Magazine), Linda Winer (Chief Theater Critic of Newsday) and Damian Woetzel (Former Principal Dancer, New York City Ballet). The producers of the 2009 Astaire Awards, which recognizes excellence in dance on stage and in film, are Patricia Watt and Ron Glucksman.

Crowley, Long Receive TDF/Irene Sharaff Award 3/27

Legendary designers WILLIAM IVEY LONG and BOB CROWLEY are among the four recipients of 2009 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards to be presented at a ceremony this Friday, March 27 at 6:30pm, at the Hudson Theatre (145 West 44th Street). Five-time Tony Award winning costume designer William Ivey Long will receive the 2009 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for theatrical costume design, and, for his achievements as both a costume and scenic designer, Bob Crowley (also a five-time Tony Award winner) will receive the TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards' special Robert L. B. Tobin Award for Lifetime Achievement in Theatrical Design.

Construction Continues & Expands At David H. Koch Theater

As construction resumes at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, following a scheduled hiatus for New York City Ballet's winter season, New York City Opera and New York City Ballet announced today that the scope of work for the joint $80 million renovation of the theater is being expanded to include a redesign of the theater's orchestra level seating to add two side aisles.

Career Transition For Dancers and the Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts, a division of Boys & Girls Harbor, Inc., present WINTER HEAT Latin Dance Party on Monday, March 9, at 7pm at the beautiful Rainbow Room 30 Rockefeller Plaza (49th St. entrance) 65th Floor NYC. This is the 5th joint benefit evening that will once again include dancing to the sounds of the 22-piece Harbor Latin Big Band and a performance by the Harbor Conservatory's Gestures Dance Ensemble, now celebrating their 20th Anniversary that will be choreographed by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin. The Dance Duo of Manuel Favilla and Karolina Paliwoda will also perform. There will also be Latin dance lessons.
