Returning to the Opera House stage for their annual engagement, New York City Ballet (NYCB) brings two dynamic and vibrant programs of repertory, June 6–11, including four D.C. premieres by some of today's most innovative choreographers—Justin Peck, Alexei Ratmansky, and Christopher Wheeldon—along with classic works by George Balanchine. All performances will be accompanied by the New York City Ballet Orchestra.

Born in Sioux Falls, SD, Mr. Boos relocated himself to NY at 15 to study dance on full scholarship at the Harkness House. Following this, he studied on scholarship at the American Ballet Theater School, and finally the School of American Ballet. It was at SAB, while working extensively with both George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins, that Mr. Boos developed an intimate understanding of the connection between music and movement.

On Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 7:30pm, Works & Process at the Guggenheim presents New York City Ballet's Music Director Andrew Litton, a longtime conductor of symphony orchestras around the world who recently added ballet orchestra maestro to his achievements with his appointment at NYCB. Litton will share his unique perspective on the similarities and differences between these two experiences, and will illuminate the intricacies of NYCB's vast musical repertory prior to the Company's upcoming Here/Now Festival, featuring 43 ballets created for NYCB since 1988, which will take place from April 25 through May 21 at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center.

New York City Ballet will present the fifth installment of its acclaimed Art Series initiative during the Company's 2017 Winter Season. Launched in 2013, New York City Ballet's Art Series features annual collaborations between NYCB and contemporary visual artists who create original works for exhibition at the Company's home, the David H. Jessica Zeller's exhaustively researched and engagingly written book, available now for pre-order, is an eye-opening addition to our currently extant ballet literature. Full disclosure: I was Zeller's childhood ballet teacher, and I'm honored that she mentions me in her acknowledgements. That said, however, my review of her impressive and valuable contribution to the history of ballet in America is unbiased.

New York City Ballet returns to the Kennedy Center for their annual engagement, March 1-6, 2016, performing two exciting and distinctively different programs of repertory, including the D.C. premiere of NYCB Resident Choreographer and Soloist Justin Peck's first narrative work, The Most Incredible Thing and a staging of August Bournonville's La Sylphide by Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins, as well as additional works by George Balanchine, August Bournonville, and Christopher Wheeldon. All performances will be accompanied by the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra.
