Birdland to Host Release Party for David Bixler's THE NEAREST EXIT, 10/18

Birdland hosts a CD release party for David Bixler's latest project The NEAREST EXIT MAY BE INSIDE YOUR HEAD on Thursday, October 18th at 6pm. In conjunction with Zoho Music ZM 201206, the Street Date for the project was August 14, 2012 and it features Bixler on alto sax, John Hart on guitar, Scott Wendholdt on trumpet, Ugonna Okegwo on drums, and Andy Watson on bass.

Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post this morning that the new musical Once, inspired by Dublin street performers and a stage adaptation of the eponymous film, may make it's Broadway debut in February of 2012. The musical recently received a workshop at the American Repertory Theatre in Boston and will be given a full production at the New York Theatre Workshop in December.

Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Mayor's Office of Media & Entertainment Commissioner Katherine Oliver today presented the sixth annual 'Made in NY' Awards, honoring six individuals and organizations which have made significant contributions to the City's entertainment and new media industries. This year's honorees included Matt Damon, John Leguizamo, Foursquare, Stacey Spikes, Smuggler, Lauren Zalaznick, and the first-ever 'Made in NY' Mayor's Award for Lifetime Achievement, which was awarded to Sidney Lumet and accepted on his behalf by the director's daughter, screenwriter Jenny Lumet.
