This summer, the "Salon Series," an eclectic and diverse mix of entertainment for locals and visitors at Hotel Rex (562 Sutter Street between Mason & Powell in San Francisco) introduces two new novel and creative experiences: Expressions Productions' "Pop-Up" Theater performance of Tape, a taut 3-character drama based on a film by Richard Linklater, and the fresh and funny "for all ages" The I Hate Children Children's Show, both running now through the end of July.

Celebration Theatre has announced its annual Vibrant Voice Awards benefit event, this year featuring original 'Golden Girl' Betty White along with her Hot in Cleveland co-stars Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, and Wendie Malick reading a classic episode of The Golden Girls. The 2014 Vibrant Voice Awards will be presented to Wendie Malick and Robert Forster, and there will be special appearances by Sean Hayes and other stars to be announced.

The Metropolitan Opera's two popular series of free summer events, the Summer Recital Series and the Summer HD Festival, will return in 2014. For the sixth consecutive year, the Met will present operatic recitals in parks in all five boroughs, as well as a ten-day outdoor festival at Lincoln Center featuring encore screenings from the Met's popular Live in HD transmissions.

Cork Film Centre Faces Savage Funding Cut

The Arts Council have announced a crippling funding cut (50%) for Cork Film Centre in 2014, with a total withdrawal of funding in 2015. The Arts Council is the primary funder of the Cork Film Centre, which also receives some support from Cork City Council and Cork County Council, as well as generating limited income through workshops and occasional special projects.

Hotel Rex (562 Sutter Street between Mason & Powell), a boutique hotel right in the heart of Union Square in San Francisco takes its inspiration from European art and literary salons of the 1920s and 30s (think bohemian Paris—book & poetry readings, literary salons, conversation, art shows, cabaret music paired with good wine & food). Each week the hotel presents a Salon Series of intimate events designed to encourage dialogue and appreciation of art, literature and music: From a book launch or a reading by an author to cabaret music or an entertaining bit of a magic show paired with food and wine.

The Metropolitan Opera and The Juilliard School announce casting for 'A Concert of Comic Operas' featuring varied excerpts and scenes from operas by Berlioz, Donizetti, and Mozart, and Stravinsky's rarely-performed Mavra, conducted by James Levine. The program includes Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Act 1); Stravinsky's Mavra; Berlioz's Benvenuto Cellini (Act 1, Scene 1); and Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore (Act 1, Part 2). Performances take place on Tuesday, February 11 and Friday, February 14, 2014 at 8 PM; and Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 2 PM in Juilliard's Peter Jay Sharp Theater. Met Opera Music Director James Levine conducts the Juilliard Orchestra and singers from the Met Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, as well as singers from the Ellen and James S. Marcus Institute for Vocal Arts at Juilliard. Director Edward Berkeley will direct the program in a semi-staged concert version.
