Annapolis Symphony Orchestra Announces 2013-2014 Season

The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra (ASO) is pleased to announce its 2013-2014 concert season. Under the continued artistic leadership of Music Director José-Luis Novo, the season will feature the Lexus Classic Series, a combination of five classical concerts, as well as a Holiday Pops concert sponsored by PNC Wealth Management, a Family concert and a free summer Pops in the Park concert presented by Lexus. All concerts are performed at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis, MD with the exception of the Pops in the Park concert which is held at Quiet Waters Park amphitheater, also in Annapolis.

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra to Perform Gershwin's Greatest Hits, 7/25-26

Maestro Case Scaglione leads the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) in an evening of George Gershwin's Greatest Hits on Thursday, July 25 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore and Friday, July 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. The program will feature the jazz-filled melodies of Rhapsody in Blue, featuring pianist Jon Nakamatsu, and the timeless music from An American in Paris. As “a major new Britten interpreter” (New York Times) with two hit Britten albums to his name, tenor Nicholas Phan is set to be a prime mover in this year's celebrations of the English composer's centennial.Summer sees Phan undertake the SERENADE FOR TENOR, HORNS AND STRINGS at Portland's Chamber Music Northwest (July 22 & 23) and, with Eric Jacobsen and The Knights, at a Naumburg Orchestral Concert in New York's Central Park (July 30) and the Ravinia Festival (Sep 3).

The Ware Center, Millersville University Lancaster, located at 42 North Prince Street, Lancaster, PA, announced its 2013 summer film lineup, comprised of documentaries, foreign and independent films and recordings of symphonies, ballets and opera - many films that were named to various 2013 Top Ten lists and nominated for several Oscars and other film-festival awards. All films are show in high-definition and surround sound on the Ware Center's giant screen in Steinman Hall.

The Solti Foundation U.S. today recognized the talent of five distinguished young American conductors. James Feddeck, Assistant Conductor of The Cleveland Orchestra and Music Director of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, is the recipient of the 2013 $25,000 Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award. Vladimir Kulenovic, Ankush Kumar Bahl, Roger Kalia, and Christopher James Lees were all named as recipients of Solti U.S. Career Assistance Awards.

Hartt Honors Robert Brubaker '77 With 2013 Alumni Award

The Hartt School has announced that celebrated tenor Robert Brubaker '77 (Bachelor of Music) will be honored with the 2013 Hartt Alumni Award at the annual Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 19. Mr. Brubaker has established himself as a leading tenor in opera companies throughout the United States and Europe, praised for the clarity and power of his voice and the impact of his acting. He has appeared at The Metropolitan Opera, the Salzburg Festival, Opera National de Paris, Covent Garden, Teatro alla Scala, and other major opera houses around the world. Mr. Brubaker, who will speak at Hartt's graduation ceremony, also will share his experiences and insights with students and other interested members of the University of Hartford community at Hartt's Paranov hour on April 25, from 12:15 PM to 1:05 PM, in Millard Auditorium.
