Berkeley Repertory Theatre announces that today, due to extraordinary ticket demand, it will extend Tribes by seven performances before its first performance. Originally scheduled to run through May 11, audiences now have the opportunity to experience the critically acclaimed family drama by Nina Raine through Sunday, May 18. Directed by Jonathan Moscone, the play follows Billy, a young man who was born deaf into a loquacious and highly opinionated academic family who raised him to lip-read and integrate into the hearing world. When he meets Sylvia - raised by deaf parents and going deaf herself - Billy decides it's time to speak on his own terms and be heard. Tribes start previews Friday, April 11, opens on April 16, and now closes on Sunday, May 18, 2014. Open-captioned performances for Tribes will take place Thursday, May 8 at 8 PM; Friday, May 9 at 8 PM; and Sunday, May 11 at 2 PM. Berkeley Rep is also proud to offer three American Sign Language-interpreted performances on Saturday, May 3 at 8 PM, Saturday, May 10 at 2 PM, and Tuesday, May 13 at 8 PM. Colman Domingo is finding that you can go home again, as he returns to his native Philadelphia to perform for the first time since his Tony Award-nominated Broadway turn in the hit musical, The Scottsboro Boys. Philadelphia Theatre Company concludes its 2013-2014 season with the Philadelphia premiere of A Boy and His Soul, written and performed by Colman Domingo with direction by Tony Kelly. This solo play with soul music runs May 23-June 22 at Philadelphia Theatre Company's Suzanne Roberts Theatre (Broad and Lombard Streets).

Huntington Theatre Company continues its 2013-2014 Season with playwright-in-residence Melinda Lopez's latest play, the stirring new drama Becoming Cuba. Huntington Associate Producer M. Bevin O'Gara makes her Huntington directorial debut of the Huntington's playwright-in-residence's latest work. Performances of Becoming Cuba begin at the South End / Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA tonight, March 28. Due to popular demand, the run has been extended to May 3, 2014.

Erica Saleh's plays have been produced and developed by theaters including Ensemble Studio Theatre, The 52nd Street Project, Studio 42, 3 Graces and The Claque. She is the recipient of a Michener Fellowship and commissions from the EST/SLOAN project and Dramatics Magazine. Erica is a member of the Ars Nova Play Group, the Ensemble Studio Theatre, and an alumna of Youngblood. She is a graduate of the Michener Center at the University of Texas and Brown University.

Due to critical and popular acclaim, SpeakEasy Stage Company is adding one additional week of performances to its New England premiere production of THE WHALE by Samuel D. Hunter.

Kate Burton, accomplished Chekhovian actress, plays onstage mother to her son Morgan Ritchie in the Huntington Theatre Company's production of THE SEAGULL, featuring an ensemble of local favorites and Broadway veterans. Director Maria Aitken leads a stellar team of designers to create magic at the BU Theatre.

The Old Globe today announced the creative team of Christopher Durang's Tony Award-winning farce Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, which will be directed by Jessica Stone. Stone, who is a frequent collaborator with Old Globe Associate Artist Nicholas Martin, will base this production on his Tony-nominated Broadway direction. Martin had been previously announced to return to San Diego to direct but had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts. Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike will run May 17 - June 22, 2014 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run May 17 - 21. Opening night is May 22 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by subscription only. Springfield Central High School student Courtney Stewart was named Massachusetts's 2014 Poetry Out Loud Champion Sunday at Boston's Old South Meetinghouse, repeating his victory from 2013. The sophomore bested 23 other finalists including the 2012 winner, Stephanie Igharosa from Randolph High School, who was named first runner-up. Second runner-up was Darlande Joseney from Avon Middle High School.
