The Kitchen is pleased to present The Tear Drinkers, the second musical work from beloved performer and Bessie-Award-winning composer Mike Iveson. The Tear Drinkers is a suite of sci-fi songs for six performers and piano; it follows four humans who have been abducted by the United States government and brought to an underground holding tank in New Mexico, so that the government can determine which of them is actually an alien from another planet masquerading as an earthling. Downtown performer Mike Iveson leads a team of exceptional artists, including pioneering video artist Charles Atlas, in a look at the private heartaches and private bathroom rituals of humans and aliens alike. Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) announces the successful completion of its two-year, $1M Cage Cunningham Campaign to establish the Cage Cunningham Fund for artist fellowships, named for legendary artistic partners John Cage and Merce Cunningham. BAC's Artistic Director Mikhail Baryshnikov announced the inaugural Cage Cunningham Fellow, Alexei Lubimov, at an event on Monday, December 14, held at the Center. The event also served as the official naming of BAC's Studio 6A the John Cage and Merce Cunningham Studio. The Studio is the first physical space honoring Cage and Cunningham's unparalleled contribution to 20th century art and culture. (more...)

Antony Nagelmann leads a journey across the Atlantic Ocean in a sailboat and imparts the extreme experiences and emotion faced along the way in The Odyssey, which will be shown on Times Square's electronic billboards from 11:57 pm to midnight from December 1 to 30.  The footage was shot in Progressive HD taking advantage of the technology that only the signs in Times Square can offer.  This project is a part of Midnight Moment, a monthly presentation by The Times Square Advertising Coalition (TSAC) and Times Square Arts.  (more...)

In Sorry Robot, four performers and a piano create a haunting world where robots long to experience the same emotions that their embarrassing, sort-of-pathetic human masters feel. In a hotel that doubles as a software development facility in an ever-dystopian Florida, the machines of the future set out to prove they can do almost anything but shut up. (more...)

The Performing Arts Center at the World Trade Center ('the PAC') today announces the establishment of a core team of artistic leaders: David Lan (Artistic Director of London's Young Vic) as Consulting Artistic Director; Lucy Sexton (artist, producer, and Director of the New York Dance & Performance Awards (aka The Bessies)) as Associate Artistic Director; and Andy Hayles, Managing Partner of Charcoalblue (London's National Theatre, Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre, and the future home of Brooklyn's St. Ann's Warehouse), as theater design consultant. Stephen Daldry (director of the films The Hours, Billy Elliot, The Reader and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, and of Billy Elliot the Musical, and former Artistic Director of London's Gate Theatre and Royal Court Theatre) has joined the PAC's Board of Directors. The artistic team is collaborating with the PAC's staff, board and numerous consultants to create a place that is unique on the cultural landscapes of New York, the United States and the world.
