BWW Review: Another Top Notch EVENING OF CLASSIC BROADWAY at Rockwell
by Don Grigware
- Nov 30, 2017
I never feel let down when I attend An Evening of Classic Broadway at Rockwell Table and Stage. The singers are incredibly talented, led by lovely producer Dianne Fraser and delightful musical director Brad Ellis. Ellis narrates, introduces many of the guests and inserts delicious anecdotes about the performers and the music being played. This show on Tuesday November 28 was no exception. With Christmas only a few weeks away, Christmas music was expected. However, many were just as happy as the radio is inundated with holiday music. This is Broadway and what we got were some fabulous songs from shows both present and past.

BWW Review: Matthew Morrison Shows Off His Strengths Belting Broadway and Standards in Rainbow Room Debut, Proving He Should Stick to Just That
by Casey Mink
- Nov 1, 2016
Once a theatre kid, always a theatre kid, and even after Hollywood has called, one cannot seem to elude the song and dance beckoning of their Broadway roots.
For proof of such a personification, look no further than Matthew Morrison, the smooth-crooning triple threat who made his Broadway debut in the ensemble of FOOTLOOSE back in 1998, and went on to star in several stage productions before becoming a household name as the earnest glee club teacher on the once-must-see series GLEE.
Making his Rainbow Room debut on October 24, the second-ever performer in the venue's new LIVE! From the Rainbow Room series, Morrison attempted to toe the line between his Broadway past, and his evident yearnings to also traverse through the genre of more contemporary pop. What was made clear by this 70-minute set, though, is that Morrison is irresistible in his element of Broadway and jazz standards, but veers dangerously close to wedding-singer shtick when delving into Hot 100 tunes.

BWW Review: Another Resoundingly Special EVENING OF CLASSIC BROADWAY
by Don Grigware
- Aug 24, 2016
On Monday evening August 22 An Evening of Classic Broadway returned to Rockwell Table and Stage for another resoundingly superb and downright mirthful show. Headed by Brad Ellis and Dianne Fraser, this show really grows on you. I love talent, and you can definitely find it here in abundance. On the bill this time around were of course ringmaster Ellis, ingenious as always with his delicious banter at the piano, and Fraser, who manages to do it all, even adjusting microphones and assisting with the props. She's amazing! Guest singers included Joshua Finkel, Zachary Ford, Susan Edwards Martin, Barrett Foa, Christina Saffran and daughter Emma Ashford and last but never least the inimitable Julie Garnye.
BWW Review: AN EVENING WITH MATTHEW MORRISON at Mayo Performing Arts Center
by Leigh Scheps
- May 23, 2016
I've met Matthew several times over the last decade and a half. The first time was in 2002, right after Hairspray opened. The second instance was at 54 Below, when he was seeing his on-screen arch nemesis, Jane Lynch, perform. Most recently, I got the chance to briefly chat with him backstage after a performance of Finding Neverland. When I left the theater, I remember saying he was the most gracious star on Broadway. Friday, was no different.
