Central City Opera's 2017 Summer Festival, which runs from July 8 to August 6, 2017, features Bizet's Carmen and Mozart's Così fan tutte in repertory, along with Benjamin Britten's The Burning Fiery Furnace, Douglas Moore's Gallantry, and Amy Beach's Cabildo in shorter runs. Celebrating the company's 85th season, the festival's productions offer a diverse and broad gamut of styles and time periods.

On Tuesday, December 6 at 8:00 p.m., Mirror Visions Ensemble (MVE) presents its winter-inspired program When Icicles Hang by the Wall at the Loreto Theater at The Sheen Center for Thought & Culture, as part of the ensemble's 25th anniversary season. The concert features soprano Vira Slywotzky, tenor Scott Murphree, and baritone Mischa Bouvier, together with pianist Grant Wenaus.  

A great treat for lovers of pipe organ music will be the recital given by renowned organist and teacher, Shirley Gale, at Christ Church, North Adelaide at 5pm on Saturday 15 October when Shirley will play a selection of some of her favourite works.

This year's Fall for Dance Festival includes twenty different dance companies and groups performing a potpourri of different styles of dance, four groups per performance, each performing on two consecutive nights. On Wednesday, September 28, 2016 I saw the first of two nights of four presentations.

Concerts at Kent Town say its with 'great joy and affection' that they welcome Robert Dawe back to their popular concert series.   Last year, after many years of battling illness, Robert returned to performing on stage. His appearance at Concerts at Kent Town relaunched his career as a concert performer. Since then he has given several successful concerts and recitals throughout Adelaide.  And, his career now spans in excess of its 50+ years and looks like continuing for many years to come.  

One could say that the Machine chose me first, then I chose it. Adapting Elmer Rice's 1923 expressionist juggernaut was the long-time dream of librettist Jason Loewith. Apparently he had approached other composers with the project to no avail. When he finally inquired as to my interest in the project in January of 2004, I was working as a sound designer on a show he was producing at the Next Theatre Company in Evanston, Illinois, where he served as Artistic Director. Up to that point, I had never written a musical, nor did envision myself writing one and I had never read, seen or even heard of Elmer Rice's The Adding Machine.

The Canadian Music Centre in British Columbia (CMC BC) proudly reveals its renovated home, the Vancouver Creative Hub (837 Davie Street) with 40-seat black box theatre, the Murray Adaskin Salon, an urban cultural hotspot for Canadian music & the local arts community. The newly upgraded CMC branch will open October 14, 2016 with the first performance of CMC BC's inaugural Murray Adaskin Salon Concert Series - four recitals dedicated to iconic Canadian composers.

Music celebrates nature in a million ways and a million pieces.  The Vancouver Chamber Orchestra's opening concert of the season presents just a few of these under the guise of natural madrigals, romantic wilderness, shadowwater, dreamwater, Formosan skies, riddles, water, sun, wind and rain - the many moods of the natural world.  

Violinist Joshua Bell and cellist Steven Isserlis are joined by two acclaimed musical forces - pianist Jeremy Denk and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, of which Bell is Music Director - in a landmark joint recording, For the Love of Brahms (Sony Classical).  Available September 30, 2016, the new album is a unique project that features works of Brahms and Schumann that Bell calls “music about love and friendship.”
