This fourth annual edition included productions that opened between January 1, 2017 and May 31, 2018. Stage Raw is a community funded professional journalism website that was created in response to the decline of arts coverage in local mainstream and alternative media.The Awards ceremony was held Monday night, August 20, at Los Angeles Theatre Center, 514 S. Spring Street in downtown Los Angeles, hosted by Coeurage Theatre Company, and co-directed by Jer Adrianne Lelliott, Thaddeus Shafer and Lauren Ludwig. Winners notated in red below.

AFTER HOURS THETRE COMPANY (who most recently produced the Ovation nominated Dogfight and I Love You Because) announces that its critically acclaimed (LA Times CRITICS' CHOICE, Stage Raw TOP TEN), uniquely immersive theatrical experience, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, adapted by Dale Wasserman, based on the novel by Ken Kesey, produced by Graham Wetterhahn, and directed by Jonathan Muñoz-Proulx is EXTENDING through SUNDAY, JULY 22 at SIX01 Studio, 630 S. Flower St. in Burbank.

After our intake interview with the Asylum's Dr. Spivey (Trent Mills), we were invited through the loading dock door into the showers where two asylum staff members required us to don our patient wear. Once we learned the rules for the evening's entertainment, double doors opened to reveal the Psych Ward, marvelously realistic with wired cage doors opening into the space where patients sat playing games at the tables around the center stage area. Nurses walked around handing out 'medication' while new patients interacted with the actor-patients playing cards or other games at tables, after which we were directed to look for clues to discover the secrets around the 'ward' which would lead us to our reward. No - I am not going to tell you what that reward was nor how to solve the clues. That is part of the fun!

 Renowned singing sensations The Harmony Boys are presenting their annual yuletide fundraising concert to benefit their charity 'Force Feed the World' (in which they shove food and their personal cultural and religious beliefs down the throats of the less fortunate during the holiday season). It's a singing, dancing, musical comedy extravaganza brimming with heartfelt but provocative satire, all at once evoking nostalgia for our nation's past while dissecting the shortcomings of the present day.

???????A very fun, irreverent spoof on a Christmastime charity fundraiser, A HARMONY BOYS' CHRISTMAS: LIVE IN CONCERT!, features the harmonious quartet with their mellow four-piece, back-up band and supporting cast hilariously performing at their annual 'Force Feed The World' charity concert. Cleverly written and smoothly directed by Aaron Matijasic, AHBC:LIC easily shows, unfortunately, that political times haven't improved as much as we would like to think.

The legendary Harmony Boys are returning to Southern California for a special one-night-only holiday event on Sunday, December 18 at 6:30pm when the boys will celebrate this joyous time of year with a live concert at the Woodshed Studios in North Hollywood. The evening will also feature a raffle of prizes and surprises, a Christmas Carol sing-a-long, and a visit from the one and only Santa Claus. Doors open at 6:30pm and the show begins at 8:00.

A sexy cast of beautiful people inhabits Green Day's punk rock opera American Idiot, in a ferocious glory|struck production that opened last weekend at The Vortex. Directors Topher Rhys and Jen Oundjian (who also choreographs) take full advantage of the concert venue space and go for a panoramic experience, moving the action offstage whenever possible. The concept enhances the surround sound feel of the show and if you approach it from a concert mindset it will be easy to go with the flow. In a way, by chopping up the visual space to include playing areas all around the space, it enhances the disconnectedness we see in the characters. Plus, there is a certain kind of bond an audience feels with an actor when he is dripping with sweat and singing his guts out right next to you.
