For those young singers out there who were unable to attend the recent auditions for The Media Theatre's summer singing contest The Vocalist--your luck is about to change! An extra audition date has been added. So search through your list of favorite songs and warm up your voice for the added audition date of Monday, June 10 at 5pm.
The Vocalist, formerly known as Delco Idol, is sponsored once again by Iron Workers Bank of Media and Aston. It is still divided into two separate contests.
Most everything regarding The Media Theatre's contest remains the same except for one major change. There will be no eliminations until the end of the third week in each competition which means all contestants will sing for a packed audience and the judges three times. Each week, for three weeks, points will be tallied with the sum total after the third week being the outcome. At the end of the very meaningful Week Three, the announcement will be made as to who returns for the semi-finals.
This gives each contestant more of an opportunity to grow, explained Artistic Director Jesse Cline. In the past, it was a quick first week song and either you were moving on or you were not. Now, each singer will actually have the ability to be showcased in a more balanced environment. If someone is nervous or anxious the first week and feels they did not do their best they have the chance to return two more times to highlight their ability.
Cline continued, Raw nerves can affect a performance, particularly for young singers. Also, song choice is very important. Being able to perform three weeks consecutively allows the contestants to choose three songs that are important to them, not just one song at a time before they know if they are moving on or not. It will still be about moving on and also about 'How can I grow as a performer?'
Cline added, And this will make it very, very exciting for the contestants and audiences who will get to know each singer a bit more.
So if you want to have a chance to sing for three weeks and see if you grow enough to move forward into the semi-finals and finals of The Vocalist competition at The Media Theatre this summer, come on out to audition on Monday June 10 at 5pm. A winner will still be chosen at the end of each contest who will receive a cash prize, gifts, and plenty of media attention. The only way to see if you have what it takes is to audition!
The main event, held on Wednesday nights during Media Borough's Dining Under the Stars, features ages 14-24 singing their hearts out as they vie for the title of The Vocalist. Sunday nights has the Junior Vocalist competition with youngsters ages 7-13 trying their best. The actual contest starts July 10 and goes through August 11.
