SCERA announces Feb. 12-13 auditions for “The Drowsy Chaperone”

SCERA announces auditions for “The Drowsy Chaperone,” which will play April 18 – May 10, 2014 on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays @ 7:30pm at SCERA Center for the Arts in Orem. The musical will be directed by David Smith.

Auditions for ages 18 and older will be held Feb. 12-13 from 7-9pm at the SCERA Center, 745 South State, Orem. Auditioners should prepare 16 bars in the style of the show (upbeat, golden-age Broadway). An accompanist will be provided, or CD and IPOD playback will be available. No appointment is necessary to audition. All roles are open, including featured and ensemble roles.

Dance auditions will be held for those invited to callbacks on Feb. 15. Tap dancers are especially needed.

ABOUT THE SHOW: A rare combination of unprecedented originality and hilarious characters, this nostalgic spoof of a 1920’s song and dance extravaganza begins when a lonely die-hard musical theater fan plays his favorite cast album on the turntable, and the musical – called The Drowsy Chaperone - literally bursts to glittering life in his living room, telling the riotous tale of a pampered Broadway starlet about to get married, her tipsy chaperone, a producer bent on sabotage, a Latin lover named Aldolpho, a ditsy chorus girl and some gangsters doubling as pastry chefs. Bursting with comedic commentary from “The Man in the Chair,” the show won five Tony Awards and seven Drama Desk Awards, making for a love letter to musical theatre the Associated Press calls “delightful, sparkling entertainment.”
