AUDITIONS: References to Salvador Dali Make Me Hot and Teacher Truths

Wasatch Theatre Company announces auditions for two upcoming shows in its 24th season—TEACHER TRUTHS by Artistic Director Jim Martin and REFERENCES TO SALVADOR DALI MAKE ME HOT by Jose Rivera. Auditions for SALVADOR DALI will be by Zoom on August 14th from 6-9 pm with callbacks August 15th from 6-9 pm. Auditions for TEACHER TRUTHS will be August 20th from 6-8 pm, also over Zoom.
REFERENCES TO SALVADOR DALI MAKE ME HOT is a surrealistic play that follows a young woman named Gabriela who has been separated from her husband, a military man. He has been off fighting in the Middle East, and returns feeling lonely and sexually frustrated. When he returns, Gabriela gives him an ultimatum. The goal is for the cast to be comprised of entirely of the BIPOC community. The roles are described below:
Moon: The moon in the sky, Gabriela’s friend.
Coyote: A wild one.
Cat: A fat one, Gabriela’s pet.
Martín: A Latino of fourteen, Gabriela’s neighbor.
Gabriela: A Latina of twenty-seven, an army housewife.
Benito: A Latino, twenty-nine, Gabriela’s husband, a soldier.
(It is preferred that the individuals playing Gabriela and Benito are a a real-life couple.)
Sides will be sent to those auditioning prior to auditioning. The script is also available on the Wasatch Theatre Company website audition page. Individuals will be notified if they are invited to the callback.
The show run dates are November 11-20 at The Box, 124 South 400 West and is directed by Emilio Casillas. If in the continued event of Covid-19 complications, the show may be postponed. The producers, director, cast, and crew will actively monitor the situation. Rehearsals will occur primarily at The Box with attention to social distancing, masks, and temperature checks. An intimacy director will be deployed to work with Gabriela and Benito on their intimate scenes. Cast members will be employed at $150.
TEACHER TRUTHS is a one-act play composed of monologues and shorts scenes that allow us to glimpse into teacher experiences and “truths” from their perspectives. The truth of teaching is while there are many joys and celebrations, it is also sometimes ugly and unpleasant. Needed are adult actors of all ages, genders, ethnicities, abilities and experience levels to fill the following roles, all of whom are teachers:

Spencer
Kim
Denise
Annie
Sides will be sent to those auditioning prior to auditioning. The script is also available on the Wasatch Theatre Company website audition page. Individuals will be notified individually if they are invited to the callback.
The show runs October 2-11 and will be performed virtually. It is directed by educator Mindy Curtis. Rehearsals will occur virtually. Performers will be paid a $100 stipend for their involvement.
Wasatch Theatre Company has been in operation since 1997. It is celebrating its 24th season and is the resident theatre company of The Gateway.
