The Company Theatre to Hold Auditions
for World Premiere of
Paragon Park the Musical
The Company Theatre Centre for the Arts will hold auditions for the world premiere Paragon Park the Musical on Sunday, May 20th at 1:00 pm at 30 Accord Park Drive in Norwell. All roles are open for casting; audition candidates arrive prepared to sing an authentic musical theatre selection, such as repertoire from Rodgers and Hammerstein, Cole Porter, Gershwin, or contemporary musical theatre composers. After singing, audition candidates will be selected to read from the musical script, scenes will also be available on request. Resume and headshot are helpful but not required.
A grand-scale musical drama with vast aspirations, Paragon Park the Musical premieres from July 27 through August 19. The original work has been in development for more than three years, locally co-written by Company Theatre co-founder and artistic director Zoe Bradford and actor/director Michael Hammond, with lyrics and music by composer Adam Brooks. Their collective story fuses history, romance and a fondness for the beachside amusement park that was a premier tourist destination for nearly 80 years.
Paragon Park the Musical is a sweeping spectacle featuring an original script, musical score, and an enormous cast of fascinating characters, based on actual and fictional figures from Hull's rich and sordid history. The story unfolds at the 1985 auction of the parks’ Carousel and flashes back to 1905 when whaling mogul George A. Dodge realizes his dream of constructing a fantastical play land by the shore. The forbidden love of a Boston Brahmin girl and an Italian immigrant serves as a catalyst for reliving memories of Paragon Park during its heyday of the 1920's and 1960's.
Principal Players:
George A. Dodge:
Dynamic whaling mogul, imagineer of the Park, adventurer, leader, crafty, showman, with the obsession of Captain Ahab, the showmanship of P.T. Barnum, and the youth appeal of Willy Wonka. Age range: 45-60
Tilly:
Daughter from a proper Bostonian Family --free spirit, driven personality, gutsy and adventurous, yet wanting to please her rigid elders. Age range: 18-30
Rinaldo:
Romantic Italian immigrant with a pride in being a gondolier, a loyalty to his family and his country, and a willingness to live in a new land. Age range: 19-30, knowledge of Italian very helpful.
Floretta:
The self-proclaimed mayor of Hull and moral watchdog, a high society matron who is editor of the local paper, she is against the park from its beginning, but has a change of heart in Act II. Tilly is her ward for the summers. Age range: 45-60
Amira:
A young Ethiopian girl who immigrates to the park as a performer from Africa, (featured dancer) and later becomes the Park’s fortune teller. Age range 18-30
Ogden:
Handsome, successful young Boston financier from wealthy family. In love with Tilly for her looks and social standing. He appears very above board but is actually secretive and underhanded in his business dealings. Age range: 25-35
Honey Fitz:
The crooning mayor of Boston. Age range: 48-60
Jackie:
A boy implied to be the young John F. Kennedy. Age range: 11-13
Larry Stone:
Of the Stone Family who owned the Park. Gregarious outgoing, funny and generous. Age range 38+
Rose Stone:
The grand matriarch of the Park Age Range: 50+
Young Rose Stone:
(Rose of the 1920’s) A progressive liberated young woman who work with George and eventually takes over the park.
Ensemble:
Children: 7-10 children between the ages of 7-13
Teens: 10-12 Teens for various roles and chorus ages: 14-19
Adults: All ages for choral work, supporting roles, stunts, including flying, dancing showgirls, workers, patrons and interesting performers.
