Pioneer Theatre Company Announces Auditions

Upcoming Auditions for Deathtrap by Ira Levin

Salt Lake City - Auditions for PTC's production of the mystery thriller Deathtrap will be held on Friday, December 6, 2013, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Callbacks are scheduled for Saturday, December 7, 2013; that time will be announced to auditioners who are called back.

Audition slots from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. are for Actors' Equity members only. Audition slots from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. are open to all auditioners. The audition time slots are limited to five minutes.

All auditioners must come in to sign up on the callboard in Room 325 at the Roy W. and Elizabeth E. Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre; that sign-up will be posted at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2013.

All auditioners will be asked to read from the script. Sides from the play will be available when auditioners sign-up the week before.

Auditions will be held in Room 245 at Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre. A photo and resume are recommended. For more information please visit the PTC web site: www.pioneertheatre.org.

Rehearsal dates for the production are Monday, March 3, 2014 - Thursday, March 27, 2014. Performance dates are March 28 - April 12, 2014. Guest artist May Adrales will direct the production.

Roles are available for two females and three males:

Sidney Bruhl - stately, wry, witty, erudite, distinguished, 50ish male writer, any race. Has a strong magnetizing presence of a man who has achieved great fame and stature. A celebrated playwright of mystery thrillers who gained astonishing success early in his career but has hit a dry spell. Actor must have some experience in stage combat.

Myra Bruhl - a modest, self-effacing woman in her late 40s or 50s, any race, middle-upper class. Has a nervous, quick, disposition and tends to follow rather than lead. Married to Sidney for eleven years.

Clifford Anderson - charismatic, sturdy, good-looking, mid 20s or early 30s male, any race, with youthful, optimistic exuberance. A former writing student of Sidney's and young lover. Actor must have some experience in stage combat.

Helga Ten Dorp - a wildly eccentric, mysterious woman, Eastern European psychic. Her magical powers are very real and potent. She is a celebrity and enjoys the fame, attention and the status. 40s or older.

Porter Milgram - a pragmatic though fairly meddlesome lawyer, 50s, male, any race. Direct, to-the-point businessman who is in charge of Sidney's legal affairs.

Pioneer Theatre Company operates under an agreement between the League of Resident Theatres (LORT) and Actors' Equity Association, the Union of professional actors and stage managers in the United States. Pioneer Theatre Company, Utah's only fully professional theatre, performs at Roy W. and Elizabeth E. Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre, located on the University of Utah campus at 300 South and 1400 East in Salt Lake City, easily accessible by TRAX light rail. Free parking is also available and the theatre is equipped with an elevator, handicap parking, hearing assistance devices and other easy-access features.
