COMING OUT - Abbey Theater

On the day Bob Anderson retires as pastor of 2nd Baptist Church, his younger son announces that he is gay, wants to marry his roommate, and will be moving to NY to do so. His oldest son, a popular televangelist, goes ballistic at this news, and his bigotry isn't helped by the roommate's suggestion that if he thinks his brother "chose" to be gay, he's probably bisexual himself. Bob has other problems, not the least being that he stopped believing in God ten years ago and has just been telling the congregation what he thinks it wants to hear, instead of what he actually believes. He's worried that admitting he's an atheist will affect his marriage, and when the church secretary turns up pregnant from a spur of the moment tryst it doesn't help. The discovery that the older son beats his wife, and was probably responsible for the death of their infant son, complicates thing further.

Needed are 4 men, 30, 35, 36, and 37 (Bob is precast), and 4 women, 25, 29, 37, and 58. One of the men and the youngest woman may be of any ethnic group, the others are Caucasian.

Open call, from 7:30-9:30 pm, May 15 & 15, 2013, in the clubhouse at Camden Place, 4311 Camden Circle, Dublin, OH 43016 (next to Tuttle Crossing Mall). Rehearsals begin August 4, performances Oct 4-5, 11-12, 18,19. World premier, cast will be listed in published scripts. Non-Equity, no pay. Cast receives DVD, house seats.
