A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM - Red Octopus Theatre Company

Shakespeare with a Twist

Announcing OPEN AUDITIONS for an exciting new adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream on Saturday, May 5th at the Newport Performing Arts Center.

Red Octopus Theatre Company, along with Darcy Hogan (director) and Milo Graamans (musical director) will hold OPEN AUDITIONS for William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream on Saturday, May 5th at 2:00pm at the Newport Performing Arts center. All roles are open.

As a group of lovers escape into a forest of mischief and magic, the creatures of the night arise. What follows is a thrilling evening of enchantment, mayhem, mystery, and merriment. Director Darcy Hogan (responsible for 2015’s wildly re-imagined version of The Taming of the Shrew), has infused Shakespeare's timeless words with movement and music, for a wild and whimsical adventure audiences won't soon forget.

24-30 actors, vocalists, and dancers are needed to help bring this ambitious production to life. Some roles require only acting, singing, or dancing, while others require all three or a combination thereof. You do not necessarily have to be well-versed in the works of Shakespeare to have a place in this production – but a love of 80s music will serve you well, as the production features original lyrics and arrangements inspired by the music of the 1980s.

Complete audition information, character lists, audition sides, and downloadable audition forms are available at www.OctopusOnStage.com (once there, click the “AUDITIONS” link). Those auditioning will be asked to read from the script and sing 10 seconds of their favorite 80s song. Event information is also available on Facebook, at www.tinyurl.com/FacebookMidsummer.

Call-backs (which are by invitation only) will be held the following day - Saturday, May 6th. Rehearsals begin this summer. The production runs October 12-28, 2018 in the Alice Silverman Theater at the Newport Performing Arts Center – just in time for Halloween.

Those who would like to audition, but who are unavailable on Saturday May 5th, can visit www.tinyurl.com/MidsummerAlternate to request an audition appointment on the alternate date (Wednesday, May 2nd).
