Breakdown
Seeking:
GEORGE BROWN:
Male, 40-60’s. One of the miners. The oldest & leader of the group, a stickler on details, bossy labor representative.
OLIVER KILBOURN:
Male, mid 30-40’s. One of the miners. Humble but proud working class. Becoming an artist inspires and transforms him.
JIMMY FLOYD:
Male, 40-60’s. One of the miners. A regular hard-working bloke, timid, curious, always surprised by life.
YOUNG LAD:
Male, 20’s. Out-of-work nephew of George. Youthful, eager to find regular work in the mines, to find out where he fits in. The same actor will play the role of Ben Nicholson.
BEN NICHOLSON:
Male, 30-40.. A famous, well spoken British artist, helped found arts colony at St. Ives. The same actor will play the role of Young Lad.
HARRY WILSON:
Male, 45-60. Part of the group but is a dental engineer. Not able to work as miner since being gassed in WWI . He’s a Marxist with strong political views.
ROBERT LYON:
Male, 40-55. British painter and Art professor, upper class, unintentionally self-involved & elitist. He comes to teach the Art Appreciation to the WEA but suggests they would understand better through painting themselves.
SUSAN PARKS:
Female, 20’s. An earnest young art student, working part time as a life model to pay her fees. Very brief nudity.
HELEN SUTHERLAND:
Female, 40-50. Wealthy, cultured, and influential patron of the arts, posh, beautiful, well-meaning.
Please Note:
All of the characters are British. The miners all speak with Geordie accents .
