Mark submission: THE LION IN WINTER Role ___ / NYC APPT SUBMISISON

Breakdown

Seeking submissions for the following roles:

Alais Capet:
Female, 20s, any ethnicity. The sister of the French king Philip, Alais has been raised by Eleanor and was promised as a child to whichever son succeeded Henry. However, she’s now Henry’s mistress, which makes her a prime pawn in everyone’s machinations. Young and lovely, her innocence (or naivete) is no match for the English royal family who raised her, and she’s beginning to pick up some of their ruthlessness.

John:
Male, 20s, any ethnicity. The youngest son of Henry and Eleanor, John is petty and immature and physically unappealing. Though he’s not very smart (which makes him very easily manipulated) and lacks any of the strength or instincts that would make a good leader, he’s Henry favorite and his choice as the next king.

Geoffrey:
Male, 20s-30s, any ethnicity. The middle son of Henry and Eleanor, Geoffrey is the smartest of the sons. He is charming when he wants to be, an expert tactician and excellent schemer, and he’s very capable of keeping his temper under control (unlike the rest of his family). Despite being probably the most qualified of the three sons to rule, he has never been the favorite of his mother or father, and he feels this acutely.

Richard:
Male, 30s, any ethnicity. The eldest son since his brother Henry died, Richard is his mother’s favorite and her choice to rule. He is a ruthless and brutal warrior, his strength and seeming lack of emotion making him a natural on the battlefield. However, despite his outward stoicism, his affair with Philip displays a deep and true well of feeling he keeps hidden away.

Eleanor of Aquitaine:
Female, 40s- 60s, any ethnicity. If Henry is the Lion of the title, Eleanor is every bit his Lioness. Smart, witty, calculating, and strong, she has steel at her core and can match Henry play for scheming play. Regal and powerful, she is descended from kings and belongs in a throne herself, but transfers her own ambition onto her son Richard. Despite her toughness and capacity for cruelty, she’s still in love with her husband.

Philip Capet:
Male. 20s-30s, any ethnicity. The young King of France, Phillip is elegant, beautiful, and accomplished, and has become an effective leader despite his youth. However, don’t mistake his refinement and polish for weakness: under the impeccable finery there’s a calculating and ambitious core.
