Breakdown

THE INVISIBLE HAND follows a kidnapped American investment banker, held for ransom in Pakistan, as he trades for his life. This suspenseful play by Pulitzer Prize-winning Ayad Akhtar is a chilling and complex look at how far we will go to save ourselves and the devastating ramifications of our individual actions on global power and politics. The play is set: “Somewhere in Pakistan, in the very near future.”

BASHIR:
20s –30s, male, South Asian/Middle Eastern. He is London-born. Smart and mercurial, quick to love and anger. He speaks with a working class English accent; sinewy and intense; a human
barracuda. Still a lovable naiveté about him despite his capacity for real menace.

IMAM SALEEM:
40s-50s, male. South Asian/Middle Eastern. Regal with charisma to burn. He speaks with a pronounced Pakistani accent. He is Pakistani - born. Very educated. A magnetic leader with charisma to burn. An extraordinary storyteller. Commands Bashir and Dar.
