SOMEONE SPECTACULAR (Off-Broadway)
SYNOPSIS: someone spectacular is a beautiful, funny, heartbreaking hyper-real meditation on grief by way of a support group meeting that goes off the rails.
[EVELYN] female, late 40s-early 50s, Latine, Indigenous, AAPI, MENASA, or Black. Immediately lovable and naturally glamorous; innately maternal, observant, wise and grounded. Grieving her mother’s death while processing the part she played in Evelyn’s difficult childhood.
[NELLE] female, 40s-50s, open ethnicity. Incredibly type-A with a sarcastic sense of humor; blunt and incisive. Grieving her sister who was her best friend.
[JULIAN] male, early to mid-20s, Black or Afro-Latino. Effortlessly magnetic but humble; loyal and intelligent with a youthful energy. Off-center in a way that makes you want to know more about him. Grieving his aunt, who was like a mother to him.
[MALE U/S TRACK] male, late 30s-40s, open ethnicity. To U/S THOM and JULIAN. [FEMALE U/S TRACK] female, 30s, open ethnicity. To U/S JUDE, LILY, NELLE, and EVELYN. ALREADY CAST:
[JUDE] female, 22, open ethnicity. Young and vulnerable, but with a strong sense of self. From a small town, she feels out of place in a big city.
[LILY] female, 30, open ethnicity. Unfiltered and unapologetic with a tough exterior that masks her sadness and more complex emotions.
[THOM] male, 56, open ethnicity. A buttoned-up workaholic dad whose selfish behavior doesn't always reflect his underlying warmth.
