THE OTHER PLACE
by Sharr White
Dir: Joseph W. Ritsch
1st reh: August 7, 2016
Perfs: September 7, 2016 - September 25, 2016

Juliana Smithton is a successful neurologist whose life seems to be coming unhinged. Her husband has filed for divorce, her daughter has eloped with a much older man, and her own health is in jeopardy. But in this brilliantly crafted work, nothing is as it seems. Piece by piece, a mystery unfolds as fact blurs with fiction, past collides with present and the elusive truth about Juliana boils to the surface.

Juliana
( Female early 50s) – A sharply charismatic scientist. Juliana’s obviously fierce intelligence is both her greatest asset and her largest burden, having helped her carve a niche in a deeply competitive field infiltrated by brilliant minds, and yet bringing her a deep impatience and a drive not always understood by those around her. The mystery of her behavior keeps acquiring new layers, and what this actor brings to each new revelation must contain intensity and precision that transfixes.

Ian
(Male early 50s) Juliana’s husband, an oncologist. A husband who weathers his wife’s heated attacks on his integrity with complex levels of exasperation, commitment and affection that brings into question her assessment of him as a disloyal adulterer or a loving partner.

The Woman
(Female late 20s/early 30s)) –The Woman portrays: Dr. Cindy Teller, a neurobiologist; Laurel, Juliana and Ian’s daughter; and a Woman.

The Man
(Male late 30s) –The Man portrays Richard Sillner, and Bobby, a nurse.

AMERICAN HERO
by Bess Wohl
Dir: Suzanne Beal
1st reh: October 2, 2016
Perfs: November 2, 2016 - November 20, 2016

At a toasted subs franchise in the local mall, three up-and-coming “sandwich artists”—a teenager, a single mom, and a downsized refugee from corporate banking—are perfecting the mustard-to-cheese ratio, according to the company manual. When their shot at the American dream is interrupted by a series of strange events, they become unlikely allies in a post-recession world. “American Hero” is a supersized dark comedy about life, liberty, and the pursuit of sandwiches.

Sheri
(Female 18) Awkward, soft spoken and weird. Doesn’t stand up straight, ever. Utterly exhausted.

Ted
(Male 40s) Relentlessly positive. A follower of rules. A true believer in the American Dream. Secretly in despair.

Jamie
(Female 30s) Hot. Gum snapping. Sexy miniskirts. Glittery eye shadow. Full of rage.

Bob/Customer/Gregory/Sandwich
(Male 40s) Seeking versatile actor to play the following roles: Bob: New to America. Thick, un-placeable accent. Very anxious for unknown reasons. Customer: A regular guy who wants a sandwich. Gregory: A man from corporate. Sandwich : A sandwich.

DORIAN’S CLOSET
Book & Lyrics by Richard Mailman
Music by Ryan Haase
Dir: Joseph Ritsch
Choreo: Rachel Dolan
Musical Dir: Stacey Antoine
1st reh: March 26, 2017
Perfs: April 26, 2017 - May 14, 2017

Dorian’s Closet is a new musical based on the life of Dorian Corey, the legendary female impersonator immortalized in the documentary “Paris Is Burning.” The story is a fictionalized account of Dorian’s life and what leads to the discovery of a mummified body in her Harlem apartment’s closet after her death in the early 1990s. Confronted with ridicule and prejudice, she persisted in her quest for love and fame. From Dorian’s early days touring the drag circuits of the 1970s, through her rise in the underground club scene in New York City in the 1980s and beyond, “Dorian’s Closet” takes us on a musical journey that explores just how far we will go to make our dreams a reality.

Dorian Corey
(TENOR - BELT): Male Late 30’s- early 50’s. Light skinned African American drag queen. Funny and quick witted, with a disarmingly compassionate and sage-like nature: Struggles with an unyielding passion for fame, love and recognition, and the sobering reality of societies constraints on her.
Robert:
(BARITONE) Male Mid to late 30’s: Hispanic. Swarthy good looks with a charming manner and a winning style: Battles with a darker conflicted side that clashes with visions of grandeur and the truth about who he really is.

Luis:
(BARITONE) Male Mid 20’s: Hispanic. A small but well-built queen. Smart, quick witted, with an innate maternal instinct. Has what it takes to one day be mother of “her” own house.

Tony La Frisky/Pepper LaBeija:
(TENOR - BELT) Male Late 30’s. African American Tony La Frisky: Sassy drag queen in the Pearl Box Review. Pepper LaBeija: Drag queen: A towering presence with a very big and very distinct personality. Mother of the House of LaBeija, sympathetic with a huge heart, but at the same time wouldn’t hesitate to cut you.

Brandi Alexander/Angel:
(TENOR - BELT) Male Early 20’s: Brandi Alexander: Sassy in the Pearl box Review. Angel: Drag queen, petite and soft spoken: Sweet and naïve with a wistful romantic and somewhat unrealistic outlook on life: Looks to Dorian as an inspiration, mentor, and mother figure.

Jackie Maye/Jesse Torres:
(BARITONE): Male late 20s-early 30s. Jackie Maye: sassy drag queen in the Pearl Box Review. Jesse Torres: drag queen, long time performer/co-owner at/of Sally’s Hideaway and Sal’s lover.

Jaye Joyce/Paris DuPree:
(BARITONE): Male late 30’s-early 40’s African American: Jaye Joyce: Sassy drag queen in the Pearl Box Preview. Paris Dupree: Mature drag queen, “been around the block” a few times. Mother of the House of Dupree and staple of the Harlem Ball scene.

Detective Figueroa/Doc/Anthony Bennet/Sal:
(NON – SINGING) Male Caucasian Mid 30’s to Mid 40’s. Detective Figueroa: Typical NYPD detective. Doc: Producer of The Pearl Box Review, one tough cookie and a no-nonsense parental figure to his traveling band of drag performers. Anthony Bennett: Producer, handsome and charismatic but with an edge. Sal: Owner of Sally’s Hideaway, a seedy drag/transsexual bar in Time Square. A tough character with a total soft side he tries to conceal.
