Breakdown

SEEKING:

EMILY:
Early twenties. Daughter of Henry, a wealthy businessman, and in some ways as combative as her father. Emily also continues to battle with the sudden loss of her mother, Henry's ex?wife, who died six months ago: she has dropped out of grad school and ditched her fiancé. Emily has a great sense of humor, a sharp wit and an urban feel? she grew up in cities and with money but is only one generation removed from a much harder life. Privileged but struggling to find her place in the world. Has a big heart. Has always been an outsider.

JAKE:
Early twenties, has a wife and baby at home. A worker at a paper?mill in the third month of a strike that has stripped him of both earning power and his sense of himself as a good provider. A working class kind of guy, grew up with pickup trucks. Rugged in a real way rather than model handsome. Didn't go to college, but smart in a normal guy way. Sweet and not too complicated. Very well meaning but clumsy with the emotional side of life. He is considering crossing the picket line, knowing that if he does, he will break his father's heart and be reviled as a ''super?scab'' by his fellow strikers. He is very much like his father who, like most sons, he both admires and resents.
