OTE: - Seeking Actors who sing and move work best in this show. ALL ARTISTS SHOULD HAVE A ROCK SOUND AND BE ABLE TO MOVE WELL. We are seeking performers of all races and ethnicities for these roles.

DONNA
(late 30s-early 40s – the mother of a 20 year old girl) Attractive and free-spirited. A former lead singer in a group called “Donna and the Dynamos” who now owns and runs a hotel/casino on a Greek island. A strong feminist who also has a zany and vulnerable side.

SOPHIE
(18-25) A very special young woman who is determined to find the romance and happiness she feels eluded her mother. Has a wild, zany spirit even though she pursues a conventional marriage. Pop soprano.

TANYA
(late 30s-early 40s) A former singer in the “Dynamos.” Rich, sophisticated, acerbic, funny, and witty.

ROSIE
(late 30s-early 40s) Also a former singer in the “Dynamos” who now writes for and runs a feminist press. She’s confident, strong, and funny on the outside but shy underneath. Kooky and fun, good comic actress, bit of a clown. Actress who sings.

SAM
(35-45) May be Sophie’s father. Left Donna 20 years ago because he was engaged to another woman. Charming, successful architect. Actor who sings. Baritone.

HARRY
(35-45) May be Sophie’s father. British financier, wealthy, buttoned-up, and conservative but trying to reconnect with his freer, youthful self. Must be able to do a very convincing English accent. Also an actor who sings. High baritone, tenor.

BILL
(35-45) May be Sophie’s father. A travel writer with no possessions or strings. Good-natured, always ready for adventure. Funny, preferably a big or imposing man. Should be a very good actor who sings.

SKY
(mid-late 20s) Sophie’s fiance. Athletic, attractive – has given up his life as a successful young businessman in order to make over Donna’s taverna and marry Sophie.

Seeking:

TEVYE, the Dairyman:
Tevye is a likeable, hard-working, pious man. He has raised his five daughters according to the Scriptures, many of which he invents himself. He is humorous and relaxed, but when pushed, Tevye can show stubbornness, and at times, rage. Age 45-60 – strong singer and actor

GOLDE, Tevye’s wife:
Golde is the real strength behind Tevye, the one who keeps the household going. She is a hardworking mother of 5. Golde must be a strong singer with comic timing. Age 45-55

YENTE, The Matchmaker:
Yente is a middle-aged widow who matches up the young people of the village in the hopes that they will marry. She is the village busybody and knows all the news of the town. Yente is the comedienne of the show with a flare for an Eastern European-Jewish-Yiddish dialect.

LAZAR WOLF, The Butcher:
Lazar is the town’s wealthiest citizen and is the same age as Tevye, maybe even older. He wants to marry, Tevye’s daughter. This is a feisty, comic role requiring a strong comic actor; loud and coarse. Age 50-65

TZEITEL, the eldest daughter:
Tzeitel is the first daughter to marry and the first to challenge the traditions. Tzeitel must be a capable dramatic actress and able to sing and move well. Age 20-25

MOTEL, the Tailor:
Motel is a rather meek and miserably poor tailor who seeks the hand of Tevye’s eldest daughter, Tzeitel, and comes into his own in the process! Age 25-35 – strong character actor, who sings well

HODEL , the second eldest daughter:
Hodel becomes intrigued with the radical, student, Perchik , and eventually leaves Anatevka to join him in Siberia. Age 20-25 needs to move and sing well.

PERCHIK, the student:
Perchik is a visitor to Anatevka, and therefore, an outsider, bringing with him radical new ideas that challenge the traditions. He falls for Hodel, the second eldest daughter. He is a strong actor, must sing and move. Age 25-35

CHAVA, third eldest daughter:
Chava is the scholarly daughter who loves to read. She falls in love with and runs off with Fyedka, a Russian soldier. In her early 20’s, she must be a strong actress, who MUST sing and dance well.

FYEDKA, a Russian soldier:
Fyedka, a strong young soldier, sees past his military obligations and falls in love with Chava. Age 25-35 must dance well


MALE ENSEMBLE Seeking Strong Character Actor-Singer-Dancers, to play various, even numerous characters in the play

FEMALE ENSEMBLE: Strong Singer-Actor-Dancers, to play various, even numerous characters in the play

Seeking:

EVA PERON
25-35 (Female) seeking a strong, versatile actress who belts to an F and can dance. Must be charismatic and tough at the same time. Also must play age range from 18 to 33 throughout the course of the play and have the endurance to withstand the rigors of such a demanding part.

JUAN PERON
35-50 (Male) becomes the president of Argentina. Must be stately, charismatic, charming and authoritative. Vocal range, legit baritone with a powerful voice.

CHE GUEVARA
30-45 A handsome, hard-edged man with an extremely volatile nature and a high, rock tenor voice. He is passionate, impulsive, jealous, manipulative and is the narrator/commentator of the piece. Must be able to grow a beard. Must also have the stamina and endurance to withstand the rigors of such a demanding role.
