Breakdown

Seeking:

LIBERTY
Woman, early 20s, any ethnicity. Beautiful and charismatic. Radiant, exotic. Initially an innocent and optimistic young immigrant, she becomes a symbol of strength and freedom. Performer must be an incredible singer (mezzo with high belt) with a tremendous contemporary sound, strong pop stylings and a very wide vocal range.


FRANCIS WALKER
early 30s to mid-40s, All-American, leading man type with political aspirations. Perhaps Kennedy-esque. Strong baritone.


CHARACTER MAN
Performer must be a tenor and excellent with accents. Seeking one actor to play the following characters ages 30s to early 50s:
* FREDERIC BARTHOLDI - 40s to 50s, Liberty’s father. Comic French accent.
* MCKAY – Successful Irish immigrant, with Irish brogue. Construction foreman who manages the workers building the Williamsburg Bridge.
* JOSEPH PULITZER – Newspaper Mogul, fast-talker, Hungarian accent.


CHARACTER WOMAN
Seeking one actress to play the following characters:
* REGINA SCHUYLER - 40s to 60s, Society Widow. Comic character actress.
* OLGA MOSCOWITZ - 30s to 40s, successful Russian immigrant, with Russian/Yiddish accent. A pushcart peddler. Comic/character alto/mezzo with belt.


JAMES GOODLEAF - CAST (actors will be seen for possible replacements)
Native American man, 20s. Iron worker. Trying to find his place building the city, but stymied at every turn. Baritenor with rock sensibility.


EMMA LAZARUS
20s, female, Caucasian. Upper class poet. A reformer, in spite of her family’s disapproval. Soprano.


SAMUEL FERGUSON - CAST (actors will be seen for possible replacements)
30s to mid-40s, African American stonecutter, but he takes whatever work he can get. Formerly a slave, he is not convinced that Liberty has a place in the US. Bass-baritone.


GIOVANNI FERRO
8 to 10, boy, a street urchin, Italian accent. Scrappy and ambitious. Boy soprano whose voice has not changed.
