3) A one-minute monologue and 16 bars of a musical theatre song. Bring sheet music in the correct key; an accompanist will be provided.

Bring a picture and resume, stapled together.

Male, 40s-50s. A larger-than-life comic actor; the star of The Max Prince Show, a hugely popular television variety show. Based on Sid Caesar and Your Show of Shows. Cannot help but dominate a room entirely.

LUCAS BRICKMAN
Male, 20s-30s. The newest writer on the staff, sensible and sincere.

MILT FIELDS
Male, 30s-40s. The flamboyant gag man who deals in fast-paced patter. A joke-a-minute wholesaler.

VAL SLOTSKY
Male, 40s. A senior writer and the most politically aware. A Russian immigrant with a strong accent.

BRIAN DOYLE
Male, 30s-40s. Irish-American, with a biting sense of humor and bitter outlook on life. Smokes, drinks, and coughs a lot.

KENNY FRANKS
Male, 30s. The most sophisticated writer on the staff. Considered the boy genius.

IRA STONE
Male, 30s-40s. A hypochondriac. He comes in late every day with a new ailment.

CAROL WYMAN
Female, 30s. The only female writer on the show; has a strong and quick defense mechanism.

HELEN
Female, 20s-early 30s. Max’s secretary. Attractive in a quirky way and completely out of her element amongst the writers.

Female, 40s-50s. A glamorous and successful actress who goes gallivanting around the world. Competitive and insecure.

Male, 18-30. An aspiring actor and Masha’s new boy toy. Sexy and self-absorbed.

Female, 18-30. A lovely, sincere would-be actress visiting her aunt and uncle. Energetic and star-struck.

Female, any age. A cleaning lady and soothsayer with a quick, biting wit.

ALFRED DOOLITTLE
Male, 40s-60s. Eliza’s working-class father. A great talker and speechmaker; lively and charismatic. Strong Cockney accent. Should move well.

COLONEL PICKERING
Male, 50s-70s. A retired British officer and renowned author. A British gentleman with impeccable manners.

MRS. PEARCE
Female, 50s-60s. Higgins’ housekeeper. Stern and strong with a heart of gold.

MRS. HIGGINS
Female, 60s-70s. Higgins’ mother; the only woman who can put him in his place. Witty, charming, and impeccably mannered.

Female, to play 17. A young Vietnamese girl who moves to Saigon and falls in love with Chris. She is young and naïve but strong-willed. Will do anything for the good of her son, Tam. Strong mezzo/belter.

THE ENGINEER
Male, 30s-50s. The half-French, half-Vietnamese owner of the Dreamland Club in Saigon. A greasy, charismatic wheeler-dealer who puts self-preservation above all else. High baritone.

JOHN
Male, 20s-30s. Chris’ close friend and fellow Marine. Passionate and full of life. After the war, he locates Chris’ son Tam, living with Kim in Bangkok. Pop tenor.

THUY
Male, 20s-30s. Kim’s cousin, to whom she has been promised since she was 13. A stalwart and determined Vietnamese military leader who will stop at nothing to get Kim back for himself. Pop tenor.

ELLEN
Female, 20s-30s. The sensible, stable American woman Chris marries after returning from Vietnam. Determined to do what is best for her husband and her marriage. Mezzo/belter.

GIGI
Female, 20s-30s. A Vietnamese bar girl with a dream of being taken away by a Marine to start a new life in America. Strong mezzo/belter.
