The Puritans is the latest and largest opera by Vincenzo Bellini, being reflected in her shed highest expressions of Italian bel canto, which the composer was great representative, on par with Rossini and Donizetti. Like La Sonnambula, Bellini opera only with shades of comedy, The Puritans (1835) also has a happy ending, however its development by a path of profound drama plot. Widely acknowledged as closely related to Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, due to their locations near time and place, the high-flying bel canto voice speech that soaks the important demands assigned to the main solo quartet and the inclusion of important parallel scenes of madness assigned to the sopranos end.
With a new staging of the great creator Emilio Sagi (Carmen, 2012) and performed by voices of exceptional quality, this great gem returns to Teatro Municipal opera.
