Metric to Release New Album September 21 + Tour with Smashing Pumpkins

Critically acclaimed Canadian group Metric is set for the release of their seventh full-length studio album September 21 via MMI/Crystal Math Music. In anticipation of the forthcoming record, NPR's "All Songs Considered" is premiering the video for the album track "Dark Saturday." NPR Music raves, "Metric's dystopian new single juxtaposes a wealthy, sinfully ignorant socialite who's 'so rich, everything's free,' with a scrappy narrator that embodies the band's perspective. Lead singer Emily Haines describes the song as a 'celebration of the self-made' at a time when the super-rich might inspire feelings of inferiority... but this new single shows the band has plugged in and turned their guitars to 11." Watch the video-remarkably shot on an iPhone X and directed by long time Metric collaborator Justin Broadbent-via NPR at HERE and share it at https://metric.lnk.to/DarkSaturdayvideo. "Dark Saturday" is now available everywhere at https://metric.lnk.to/darksaturday and the forthcoming record is available for pre-order at https://ilovemetricstore.com/.

"This is our seventh album as a band," says iconic frontwoman Emily Haines, "and we wanted the first song people heard from it to be 'Dark Saturday' as a sonic heads up that our guitars are back in force. Lyrically, the song depicts a dystopian nightlife scene of gaudy wealth where oblivious party girls say nauseating things like, 'I'm so rich everything's free.'"

For the first time in the band's last three albums, guitarist Jimmy Shaw did not co-produce, preferring to turn over the producer mantle to first time collaborator Justin Meldal-Johnsen whose many other musical collaborations include M83, Beck and Nine Inch Nails. The album-which was recorded at Metric's own Giant Studio in Toronto-was mixed by first time collaborator Tony Hoffer, whose countless credits include Phoenix, Depeche Mode and Air.

"Justin was just what we needed in a producer for this album," notes Shaw. "He really saw every band member eye to eye and was able to capture what we each do best. It was something I realized I couldn't do at this stage, having been in the band for so long. We were finally able to focus on just playing again, as we did at the start. Making this album brought us together in a way we hadn't been for quite some time and I think you can hear it in the music."

While no title, artwork or track listing have been revealed, the band is launching a pre-order campaign from their website, https://ilovemetricstore.com, with a variety of bundle options available. Fans who pre-order early will receive a signed, limited edition "Dark Saturday" 7" flexi-disc vinyl with their purchase at no extra cost, available only while supplies last.

All pre-orders come with an immediate download of "Dark Saturday" and will ship to arrive on oe about the date of release. A minimum of two additional tracks will be available for download prior to that.
