Kara Oates, the Greenwood girl who has gone from the Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre stage to Broadway to perform in two top shows, has now taken to the recording studio.
Kara played the title role in Beef & Boards' 2009 production of Annie at the age of 10. She made her debut at Beef & Boards in the role of Marta in the 2008 production of The Sound of Music.
Then she left Indiana for the Great White Way, where earlier this year she completed a run of 182 performances as Jane Banks in Mary Poppins. Prior to that role, she played Keeley Gibson, one of 12 ballet girls in Billy Elliot, the Tony-Award winning hit Broadway musical by Elton John, for 634 performances.
Now 14, Kara has taken to the recording studio. She has just released her first CD entitled "S.A.N.T.A. Dot Com," a song for those of all ages who still believe in Santa Claus in an online era. The music is by Joe Gianono, with lyrics by Hal Hackady.
"I had a lot of fun recording this song because it's always been my favorite holiday," Kara said of Christmas. "I really enjoyed meeting and working with Joe and Hal on this project. They were both so nice to work with and I can't wait to see what they come up with next."
"S.A.N.T.A. Dot Com" is available on Cdbaby, iTunes and Amazon.
