The New Depot Players, Conyers premier theatre company will present the heart-warming play, Steel Magnolias beginning this Friday,July 31st and running for three weekends.

Steel Magnolias is alternately hilarious and touching. Author Robert Harling was inspired to write his first play after his sister Susan died of complications from diabetes. Steel Magnolias premiered off-Broadway at the WPA Theater in 1987, then quickly transferred to the Lucille Lortel Theater and became an instant sensation, running for three years and spawning a hit movie. Through the views of the women in the play, we see love, apathy, pain, loss, secrecy and a desperate attempt at living a life of happiness. We see dreams built and shattered, the power of hope, the love between a mother and her child, and the bond that can be unbreakable between true friends.

Jay Tryall, director of the show, stated, "The play explores the lives of ordinary women going through situations the average person can relate to. The characters are realistic and, as the play progresses, their friendship and the community of the beauty salon become increasingly apparent. The play focuses on the camaraderie of these six Southern women who talk, gossip, needle and tease each other through the best of times - - and comfort and repair one another through the worst. It is the funniest play to ever make you cry."

Tryall added, "In keeping with the issues covered in the play, The New Depot Players is partnering with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) during the run of this show. Each child that is newly diagnosed with Diabetes is given a Teddy Bear by the JDRF - and their supply of Bears is almost gone. Help us give these special children and their families a little comfort. Bring a NEW, stuffed Teddy Bear to any performance of Steel Magnolias and receive a discount of 20% off your ticket price. Simply use the code "BEAR" when you order your tickets through the box office by phone, online or at the door. Bring your Teddy Bear with you and we'll collect them at the door of the theatre and display them until we send them to the JDRF.

Concluding, Tryall said, "And, we're challenging local residents and businesses to donate by hosting a special charity performance of the show on August 9th at 3pm. For a minimum donation of $20, each person attending gets admission and a free drink at the concession stand. You can still bring a NEW, stuffed Teddy Bear to this performance, but we won't be taking reservations online or through the box office. We'll accept cash or checks at the door. ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TO THE JDRF. Thank you for helping us support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation."
