Turner, Sewell, Etc. Win Evening Standard Awards

The 2006 London Evening Standard Awards have been announced.

The ceremony took place on November 27th at the Savoy Hotel.  Hosted by Lady Rothermere, it included such guests as Kim Cattrall, Jane Asher, Brian Cox, Sir Peter Hall, Dominic West, and Patrick Stewart, according to the Evening Standard.

Tom Stoppard's Rock 'N' Roll, which played the Royal Court Theatre prior to its current run at the Duke of York's, won the Evening Standard for Best Play, while its star Rufus Sewell won Best Actor.  Tony Kushner and Jeanine Tesori's Caroline, or Change, presented by the National Theatre, was awarded Best Musical.  Peter Morgan's Frost/Nixon, which is presented by the Donmar Warehouse and is currently playing the Gielgud Theatre, received the Editor's Award.

Tony-nominee Kathleen Turner, who starred as Martha in the transfer of the Broadway revival of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? at the Apollo Theatre, was named Best Actress.

Timothy Bird and David Farley won Best Design for the hit Menier Chocolate Factory production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Sunday in the Park with George, which later transferred to Wyndham's Theatre.
