Playwright Susan Hodara Premieres DISILLUSIONED 7/22 And CHRYSALIS 8/14

Susan Hodara is an up-and-coming playwright who has two different plays premiering in two different festivals in New York this summer.

The first play, 'Disillusioned,' will be premiering at the Midtown InterNational Theatre Festival (http://www.midtownfestival.org) as part of its first annual Short Subjects Division on Wednesday, July 22, at 8 p.m with two performances following that weekend. The play is about a young girl named Jane, who hides in shadows and acts "blind" to combat stage fright. Through the play she does magic shows with Bernie, a magician who is her mentor and tries to teach her the secrets of his magic tricks. She, however, continues to act blind to keep the world away, until the act becomes reality.

The second play premiering this summer is called "Chrysalis," will be performed as part of The Strawberry One Act Festival (http://www.therianttheatre.com/strawberry.html), being hosted by The Riant Theater. The play is a half hour long and will be performed on Friday, August 14, 2009 at 7pm. As you may know with this festival, only one performance is guaranteed, as it includes elimination rounds until a top winner of the festival is chosen. The play begins the day after George, an astronomy professor, retires from a local college. This gives him more time than he and his wife Millie have spent together in a long while, as they don't know what to do with themselves, let alone each other. They realize quickly that as husband and wife, they never got to know one another. Millie and George contemplate the marriage vows they took so many years ago.
