Baz Bamigboye of The Daily Mail has reported on an upcoming musical based on the life of reggae legend, Bob Marley.

Sanctioned by the Marley family and created by Kwame Kwei-Armah, the musical will focus on the singer's life and activism and will feature many of his classic songs.

Though there has been much historical speculation about the singer's drug use and multiple children, the creator of the show has explicitly noted that he doesn't intend to approach the singer's life from a perspective of "sex and loose morality" a narrative he feels has been placed on too many black icons.

Though the show will not shy away from the reggae legend's famed marijuana use, Armah intends to use the show to highlight the singer's attempts at peacemaking in his native Jamaica, which was in the midst of clashes between political factions and rival gangs at the height of his fame.

"We start looking at Bob as a young man, trying to hustle and get his way into the music industry; and as he becomes successful, so grows his social responsibility," Kwei-Armah told the Daily Mail.
