J&R Productions Presents A BLACK AND WHITE NIGHT OF THEATER

By:

J&R Productions is set to present A Black and White Night of Theater, running March 3rd-7th at the historic Gene Frankel Theater in New York City. The evening will feature two plays directed by Shawn Renfro (Artistic Director of the Apothecary Theatre Company), White Panther and Black Thang, and one dollar from every ticket sold will be donated to the American Red Cross to help those affected by the devastating earthquake in Haiti.

After celebrating black history month in February, White Panther and Black Thang are being presented in New York City to commemorate the revolutionary figures of the African American community and reflect upon the modern day revelation of our first black president Obama. The contrast of these two plays will enlighten people to share these stories of relationships, and love.

White Panther, written by Arinne Brandy, Isiah Whitlock and Yanna Kroyt Brandt, takes place in the 1960s during the Black Panther Movement where an interesting connection, fraught with danger and unpredictability, develops between a jailed member of the Panthers and the lawyer petitioning for his release.

Black Thang, written by Ato Essandoh, is a charming romantic comedy about the growing relationship between a white woman and a black man and their struggle to come to terms with prejudice and stereotypes.

The cast of both plays will feature Jen Araki, Josh Baywater, Lela Bryant, Juliette Carr, Zack Griffin, Isa Rahman, and Rocco Turso.

Playing at the Gene Frankel Theater (24 Bond Street), A Black and White Night of Theater runs from March 3rd to 7th with performances at 8:00pm March 3rd to 6th and 2:00pm matinees on the 6th and the 7th.

Tickets are $18 and can be purchased in advance by calling 917-689-3249 or by emailing jenandroccoproductions@gmail.com.
