Celebrating 34 years of excellence in theatre, the Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards Society will be announcing the nominees for the upcoming theatre awards honouring Vancouver's vibrant artistic community at the 2016 Jessie Nominations Party on Tuesday, May 24th at the York Theatre, 639 Commercial Drive. The doors open at 4:30pm and the announcement of the nominees will be at 5:00pm sharp, followed by a reception.

This year a new award has been created. The Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards Board of Directors has established the Vancouver Now Representation and Inclusion Award that will recognize excellence in the field of accessibility and inclusion. It will be awarded to an individual, company, production or initiative that is as inclusive as possible, prioritizing the intersections of race, gender, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, and age.
The Jessie began in 1983 and takes its name from Jessie Richardson, one of Vancouver's theatre pioneers. The awards acknowledge excellence in Large Theatre, Small Theatre and Theatre for Young Audiences categories and honours bodies of work that contribute to the vitality of Vancouver's vibrant theatrical community.

Holding Space Productions will produce and direct the award ceremony this year creating an inclusive community celebration that will bring together theatre artists and enthusiasts from diverse practices and backgrounds.

The 34th Annual Ceremony will be held at the beautiful Commodore Ballroom, 868 Granville Street, on Monday, June 27, 2016, doors open at 5:30pm, ceremony at 6:30pm. Tickets are $29.50 plus service charge at Ticketmaster 1-855-985-5000 or online at www.ticketmaster.ca.
